Poll of the Day > What game series are your *instant* must play/buy?

As in, when X game from Y series comes out, you basically put all other games, if not activities, on hold, and it goes to the top of your priority list?

Mine that I can think of:
-Zelda
-Borderlands
-XCom
-Fire Emblem
-Diablo
-Mario (mainline 2D and 3D entries).
-Xenoblade
-Smash Bros.
-Bioshock

Was a harder list to make than I thought, because even though I really like some other series, there are some iterations that I haven't even played (I skipped basically every Animal Crossing since the GNC one, for example) or some that have faded with time (I *almost* want to put Pokemon down, but I waited a week for S&S, and I haven't bothered with anything outside of the mainline series besides Go, including Hey You Pikachu).

And even THEN I'm not even being totally consistent- I didn't get the Link's Awakening remake, but I think it being a remake (even a very good one) allows me to let it slide.

So, what about you? What game series do you put everything else on pause for to play?

This is a really tough question...
I don't think there is one? I can't think of a single series I've liked enough to buy every release.

Disgaea, maybe? I wouldn't consider myself a fan of the series but I own every release and have bought them all very near launch, even the remasters/ports.

I will say that I own every single game Devolver Digital has ever produced. I tend to follow developers/publishers more than I follow series.

It variaies depending on my mood, but probably the ones I have done it the most with are:

Metroid
Zelda
Yakuza
Assassins Creed (only the last 2)
Metal Gear Solid

But really, it varies. Oddly enough I have never done it with 2 of my favorite game series (Doom and Mega Man) for whatever reason. Still haven't bought Doom Eternal even though I have every intention of doing it.

Truly. My younger sister got into games because I played them (she still plays Steam games and whatnot), and eventually got into the ND games. So in fairness, I played them along with her, and liked them. They aren't bad little point and click adventures. I started with #3 (the treasure in the manor?), but #5 (the Houdini theater) was my favorite (because magic). I played the first 10 and I think a few scattershot ones afterwards. My sister still has all of them and buys them when they come out. As it so happens, she's very good at Escape Rooms.

Hell, those games got me laid. I had a friendly flirtation with a co-worker, who went gaga when she found out I played the games ("IT'S LOCKED!", we'd like to quote). I bought her the newest one just for fun years ago. She came over so we could play together, which lasted about 10 minutes, until she realized the only mystery she wanted to solve was how quickly I could take her clothes off.

Technically none, although the closest thing is core Pokemon games. I usually buy those right around release -- and pre-ordered a few back when pre-order bonuses were better -- although I often either don't start them immediately and/or wind up starting then delaying finishing them.

I'm still a short ways into Pokemon Shield and I'm stuck on Pokemon LG!P since I need to remember my old Nintendo information since I want to make sure I connect my 3DS and Switch.

IDK if I must buy anything but generally if these games/series/developers make something 8.5-10 worthy then I will buy it

-Zelda mainline as long as I have the console
-Mario mainline as long as I have the console
-Metroid mainline as long as I have the console
-Xenoblade
-Smash Bros. as long as I have the console
-FromSoft Games
-Blizzard new IPs or sequels to diablo/starcraft (stopped really wanting to play wow including classic after playing end of WotLK/most of Cata/End Raid of Mists/All of Legion)
-Tales of JRPG mainline as long as it isn't trash like Zestiria
-CD Project Red mainline games since Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk, which really is just wanting to play good AAA games lol

That's it really, everything else is strongly dependent on how good the game is and if it's on sale

There aren't any. I'm always fine with waiting to pick up a game used or on sale. I still don't have any of the current gen consoles, and I barely played anything from the 7th gen.

Even when there's a game series with a 9/10 or 10/10 game in it, there's a limit to how much I want of that series. It's fairly likely that I'll buy a sequel, but I'll buy it when it's cheap or if I'm in the mood for it, not on launch day.

EOU2 was pretty good but the boss battles were terrible. V was good and nexus was decent as well
