Between the controller options I have...

I finally started last night and used the Pro Controller, but based on tutorials and the control scheme, I feel like the disconnected Joy Cons are the way to go (even though they're tiny as hell in my hands).

The game wants you to use disconnected joy cons to do the fancy hat tricks... even for a premiere game on a system championing its portability

A blemish on an otherwise perfect game

pro controller is 100% fine, dont listen to them with the detached joycon stuff. theres some hat tricks you can do but theyre not needed and can be done with enough waggle if you really want on pro.

If you are an adult male, with normal sized hands, I feel like the answer is always pro controller.

This is speaking as someone who does not own a Switch, so maybe it's easy to get used to joycons, idk. But my limited time using one is that the buttons are way too small for my liking. It was like going from a Gameboy Classic to a Gameboy Color, except more.

It's a great platformer and Mario Game, but BotW was almost a transformative gaming experience for me. This hasn't hit heights that lofty yet (apart from the aforementioned Festival, but that's easily been my favorite moment so far). Who knows, maybe it'll rival BotW by the end, as I hear it has a robust endgame, but I'm already 200+ moons in and it'll really need to blow me away.

I was initially annoyed by how small the disconnected Joycons felt (mostly because I can't really use my middle fingers for ZL/ZR like I normally do) but I got used to it pretty quickly. It's very comfy once you do.

There are more gameplay options in BOTW. The game is also very open with experiments with its physical engine.
Mario Odyssey is more a level design and game design ideas game. You can pick any sub level of this game, synthetize the rules of game and create an entire game based on it.

Alright, that ending sequence is making me reconsider Smash > Mario. Talk about sprinting across the finish line and giving players something they'll remember.

Also, how the hell did Nintendo release this and BotW nine months apart. Has a developer ever released two games this good in a calendar year? I know Square was on a roll in the 90s, but I'm not sure if two of their heavy hitters dropped in the same year.

FF6 and Chrono Trigger were 11 months apart
Mario RPG was 1 year almost to the day after CT
FF7 was less than a year after SMRPG and FFT was only six months after 7
And then Xenogears was 8 months after that
FF8 was exactly a year after Xenogears
FF9 breaks the 1 year chain by being 16 months after 8
But then FFX is a year after 9

Same. I played BotW before this and was very disappointed with it. Had I played SMO first I wouldve been even more disappointed in BotW. Odyssey is just way more fun to explore and find all the stuff in it

Also within the 9-month span between BotW and Mario Odyssey, they also released Splatoon 2 and Samus Returns, no slouches in their own rights

(Also 1-2-Switch, ARMS, FE: SoV, and Hey Pikmin but Im not sure theyre worthy of this conversation <_<)

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but there are a few moons (or at least one I can think of at the moment) that are basically impossible to do without the disconnected joy cons for advanced cappy throws. But besides when getting said moon(s), pro controller is no question the way to play this and basically every Switch game.
