Not true. The Elite are represented by Donald Trump. Donald Trump IS the Republican party right now, and he doesn't care about the working class. In fact, even when he wasn't President he didn't bother to pay workers!

Today is sad for me not because I'm a staunch Bernie supporter (I might prefer him over Biden, but I'm unsure. Either way though, I think he needed to drop out) but because now the hardcore Bernie supporters are going to dial up their hating of everything not-Bernie to 12 and that's going to be hard to watch. I'm just ready to unite around one campaign, but there's going to be a lot of kicking and screaming and denouncing of everything for the next few days and that's sad to me.

Let me clarify that I don't necessarily have a problem with lamenting the end of Bernie's campaign. He was the best at inspiring people and I think we should be allowed a time to come to terms with the end. But the #WriteInBernie stuff guts me.

If anything they'll calm down a bit now that he's not officially running, because a lot of it was actually to convince people to vote Bernie over Biden in the primary (which I agree with! and you should still vote for Bernie in the primary if you can safely do so!). But now we move on to general election discourse which is different because there isn't a fight for Bernie to win anymore.

Curious, did you listen to it? Because this framing isn't correct. He's not asking for "the end of social distancing," he's asking for a more balanced approach between lock down everything and closed baseball stadiums. In examples used he doesn't call for an end of mass gatherings, he doesn't fall for a blockage on cruises, he's asking for something in the middle. That's a fair position to take as he's focusing on other important numbers too - mental health issues and domestic abuse ARE spiking right now, to a very alarming degree. 17 million unemployment and growing. Even in his mental health hotline stuff, he could've gone deeper. Examples:

The jump IS a concern and it'd be wrong to ignore that. Unemployment causing that is a definite problem we can't ignore and fortunately with the extra $600/week, can hopefully be midigated. Small businesses definitely need more bailout.

It's fair to want the whole picture of the damage being done as right now the issue is rapidly shifting to a case where people aren't coping with this at all. Now personally my reaction to a lot of that is "toughen up and get inside" but I can't ignore that the numbers are concerning and if you want to help that aspect, you've gotta do what he said in the end: explain why this should continue, clearly. Repeatedly. Like we're 5. Both federal and state.

Yeah, this stuff does not mesh well with gaining support for the causes Bernie champions. And when people say they'd prefer Trump to Biden if Sanders isn't the nominee... I wonder just how much they really care about progressive causes. Seems more like they care about Bernie Sanders than about his positions. Which is not a good way of gaining support in a primary run by said establishment.

I may be on sort of an island, but I am much more sympathetic to "socialist" causes than "progressive" ones. Progressive implies a belief in progress, i.e. in the upward moral arc of history. I think that history shows this view is clearly wrong. There is no improvement in human morality with time, only in technology and knowledge.

Let's hope the Republicans retake the House too and we can pass some infrastructure and socialized healthcare bills. I think if we include a provision in the bill that we have full single payer, except that abortion, sex changes, etc. are not covered that should be sufficient to get all Democrats to vote against it. Then the Republican Party can campaign for decades on the legacy of having fixed healthcare in America without any Democratic support.

I'm not okay with it at all. I wish the progressives had nominated a candidate that didn't alienate the majority of the party so I could vote for THAT person instead of the second-worst candidate in the Democratic primary. But there was no learning from 2016, and now we're stuck with alleged sexual assaulter vs. rapist who got a fellow rapist confirmed to the Supreme Court. One of these is an order of magnitude less terrible than the other.

And they'll deserve to do so. After all, I'm sure that all those Bernie supporters will have spent the seven months prior to the election calmly supporting Biden in order to ensure that at least SOME aspect of their progressive ideology is carried out, rather than completely erased and reversed under four more years of a Trump presidency, and they will in no way signal boost every single negative talking point they can in a showy fashion to express just how morally righteous they are in their disdain for Joe Biden. None of those "told you so" voices will ever comment about how Trump and Biden are "the same" or how they're not going to vote, or they're going to write in Bernie's name, or they'll vote third party. Nope, those voices will fight tooth and nail to ensure that Joe Biden wins, and then if/when he loses, they'll be completely justified in being pissed at Biden beating Bernie, because I'm sure that they will have, in no way, contributed to the kind of atmosphere in which Joe Biden is sandbagged and treated as being on the same level of awfulness as Donald Trump.
