They keep saying "..those that did their taxes and provided us with their Direct Deposit info..." Does that include/mean people that used say TurboTax or HRBlock to file and had DD setup through them? I'm not sure if I need to do anything. I used HRBlock online tax service this year and my taxes were DD to my bank account but it was through HRBlock. I'm unclear if I'm setup to receive it by DD already...

I think it'd be obvious to assume there will be a way to check online whether this information is up to date

Yes. H&R Block sent your info to the IRS. The IRS are the ones who deposited your tax return into your account.

if you directly deposited into a bank account, that's where it'll go.

if you directly deposited into a prepaid debit card, odds are, that's where it'll go, since that's the routing and account number that would be on your submitted return.

however,

The IRS does not have my direct deposit information. What can I do?
In the coming weeks, Treasury plans to develop a web-based portal for individuals to provide their banking information to the IRS online, so that individuals can receive payments immediately as opposed to checks in the mail.

try that, you might be able to switch there if you threw away the debit card that some tax return websites offer.

otherwise, you'll receive a physical check in the mail if you had no direct deposit information on the return.

DD is no good because I'd have to look up my number. I just ask for a check, way easier.

Just be aware that it'll take longer. Direct deposits will start as soon as April 9, whereas they're planning to mail checks on April 24, in increments starting with those whose AGI was under $20,000.

More details from the IRS here: https://wapo.st/3aF1JUv

The IRS plan would distribute paper checks to the lowest-income Americans first, prioritizing payments for individual taxpayers with incomes of $10,000 or less on April 24.

Checks for earners of $20,000 or less would be in the mail May 1, followed by those with incomes of $30,000 on May 8, $40,000 on May 15, and continuing in income increments of $10,000 each week, according to the plan. The IRS plans to issue about 5 million checks each week.

Stimulus checks would be issued on Sept. 4 to joint taxpayers earning $198,000, the maximum allowed under the stimulus. All others would be sent on Sept. 11, in most cases because the IRS did not have prior tax information for them and they need to apply for the checks.

Yup, same every year. Obviously the mail takes longer than just wiring it through. The alternative is figuring out what the hell or where the hell the routing number is. I don't use checks.

You literally go to Google and type in your banks name and write routing number after it

for someone who claims to be that smart you sure cant solve basic problems.

Assuming you use some sort of online/mobile banking, you should be able to find the account and routing numbers listed for each checking and savings account.

I hate hold music and this year everything is closed anyway. Or I check the box next to 'send a check' and be done.

Hmm. So there's a thought. How long will the bank be closed...

As long as you used your bank account for having your tax return direct deposited, that's how they'll send your stimulus money to your bank according to your latest tax return direct deposit information.

I just called the IRS help line b/c I owe money and responsibly did my return 2 months ago. Had the money coming out 4/15. Deadline was extended to 7/15, but payments weren't automatically shifted (why?).
Best they could do was cancel my payment and have me manually submit a new one on the IRS website. Didn't tell me on the phone that you can't schedule the payments beyond 30 days out. So now I'm gonna have to reming myself in 2 months...

But FYI if anyone else owes money and did their taxes before the extension was made, you can call 888-353-4537 and at least cancel the payment. It's operating 24/7.
