Fallout's performance would be considered a disappointment if we hadn't been surprised by indie games' performances in earlier matches. Now it just looks like an ordinary beatdown.

As it turns out, I apparently didn't... I remember doing them and copy/pasting my percentage for Bloodborne into my crew write-up, but it would appear I didn't actually post it here, or some error happened or whatever. That sucks >_>
I only learned this because I wanted to check how close I actually was, so at this that means I don't miss tomorrow as well. I had Horizon at 80.something, so much for that.

I was asleep for the RE talk but 7 would easily beat 3. 3 is the lowest selling numbered game, even behind 0 when you consider ports. It is also low in the rankings more generally. This is all before the remake comes out of course!

The general trend for Latin America is that all things Playstation are really strong here, especially actions series such as Castlevania and Resident Evil. I'd wager Bloodstained may be getting a Castlevania boost.

I wrote this in the middle of CBX:

So I'm looking at the trends from my country (Brazil) and found some interesting things.

This is SonyFAQs. The PS1 is the strongest console here bar none, and everything that had a peak in PS1 has a peak here. Resident Evil is beastly. Castlevania is beastly. MGS is beastly. MMX is absolute god mode. Aya Brea overperforms like crazy, though she doesn't win R2.

Nintendo is moderately weaker, but how weak varies between characters. Ness is garbage here, but stuff like Mario and Zelda, not that much. Donkey Kong doesn't change. Pokemon is moderately weaker all across the board in R1, though Red flips over Sora and Zard flips over Bowser (even though he loses to Terra).

FF doesn't seem to vary from the global trends. Matches involving FF characters have little change. Same for KH. Frog's match had the same results, but Magus flipped over VIncent and got 55%, so either we don't care about Vincent or CT is a little stronger here. Noctis flipped over Hand, though.

PW seems a little stronger too. Don't ask me why.

Sonic is also considerably stronger, for some reason. The only Sonic character who didn't get higher percentage in R1 was Metal Sonic, which stayed the same, probably because of the stronger MGS I mentioned above.

We care even less about modern gaming than the world average. Ramza almost doubled Garrus. K. Rool flipped his match. Glados was weaker despite pokemon being weaker.

All fighting game characters are stronger too. Chun-Li beat Ganondorf, and Ryu hit 77% in his match.

Bomberman is stronger too and beats Kefka in a close match.

MMX is the big winner here. I might take MMX over Link if the contest was limited to Brazil. Both Zero and MMX got nearly 90% in their R1 matches, and Zero got 73% on Knuckles. No idea what this says about Mega Man Classic, though.

I don't know how much you folks care about this stuff but hey, it's stats. I'm posting it because I love stats. Brazil is probably only about 2% of the gameFAQs userbase though, looking at geographical polls, but hey, maybe we help MMX win a close match over Luigi/Tifa.

Would've loved to see Bloodstained get a win. Would've probably had a shot at Stardew.

I realize I didn't update that analysis for the finals division, so here it goes. Notable results:

• Mega Man almost doubled Pikachu. Mega Man Classic is also really legit. Mega Man almost quadrupled Ganondorf.
• Alucard actually beat Cloud here.
• Crono almost doubled Bowser, so the theory that Crono is legit here also has some strength. We are CronoFAQs, but not SquareFAQs. Crono actually beat Cloud.
• Snake beat Zelda very confortably. But he almost lost to Sonic. Which means MGS boosted here, but not as much as Sonic/MM/Castlevania/RE.
• Sonic continues to be very strong, beating Zelda by 60-40.
• Meanwhile, results like Samus vs TIfa and Link vs Cloud remain unchanged, which means we don't favor Nintendo or FF over each other compared to the global trend. We just favor other stuff over those two.

Beautiful to wake up to. Borderlands 2 looking good

Nier 1 has one of the best JRPG stories around. Personally I prefer Nier 1 to Automata, but I'm a whackjob.

As for it giving Automata a boost, I doubt it. I can't see people thinking, "Well, I was gonna vote for Pokmon, but Nier 1 is getting a remaster, so..."

Looking a bit closer, the anglosphere seems to be propping BL2 up. Not just the US, but the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, even South Africa. Ireland is below the average for BL2 but it is still winning. Thats interesting.

I think BL2 is stronger than FFXV in the contest of weakest GotY winner also. Both BL2 and Bloodstained come away looking alright.

I still think Horizon breaking 80% on Fortnite is kinda impressive. Yes Fortnite is probably fodderous af on GFAQs but you don't break 80 on something without having some decent strength of your own.

it imploded on myself because the huge success of the Walking Dead (which people definitely gave a shit about) led to them getting like a hundred more licenses and churning out a ton of games that were significantly less popular.

I think Walking Dead, Life is Strange, Edith Finch and similar type of game Firewatch ....etc All will lose first round because people here dont like to vote for them because they consider them walking simulator and nowadays that is a big offense, a major flaw. I suppose Journey will meet similar fate.

I like those games, they have usually something interesting to go along with their good art direction and interesting story. But i dont think they can have a fanbase, unlike other games like Halo or FF no matter how badly they do their fans are there for them.

Journey would if it wasn't facing a gacha, and I imagine we hate those more than walking simulators.

I think as story-driven adventure games go, LiS may end up being the strongest. TWD crashed due to many much discussed factors, and Journey looked like garbage before. LiS didnt look DREADFUL in 2015 snd should be a good bit stronger.

Telltale really should've focused their resources into 2-3 strong series instead of going wide.

And this is coming from a huge Telltale fan. I loved their take on TWD, Wolf Among Us, Borderlands, and Game of Thrones.

But any indie author will tell you that you build a fanbase by writing a trilogy or series, not by writing a bunch of standalone books with series potential. Many audiences won't even touch a series until it's completed for fear of getting permanently stuck with a cliffhanger ending (See: Game of Thrones books).

Life is Strange had like 18% on Fallout 3 before the Undertale rally. That's pretty dreadful.

It'll have more to do with REmake 2 being a more recent game and the RE series in general having done more in recent years. RE has been busy since 2017.

Fire Emblem: Awakening has a strength of 22.89.

Resident Evil 2 wins with 52.17% of the vote!
A win of 2,646 with 60,875 total votes cast.

This isn't iron clad evidence but it does suggest that the remake is in the ballpark of the original in terms of strength.

Nah. The combination of Andromeda and lack of relevance clearly did far more damage to the series as far as contest strength.

Compare 2013 Shepard, who managed to beat Aeris and broke double digits while being the third wheel in Link vs. Draven, with 2018 Shepard, who very nearly lost to K. Rool.

Mass Effect 2 would be far from the first game to completely fall off the map once people have moved on from the series.

That said, for all the indie talk, Mass Effect 2 is looking lucky that it isn't facing Cuphead next round.
