What world do you live in where people just leave? If they're the type of jerk to make a scene, they're the type that will make a BIGGER scene when you ask them to leave.

Last time I remember having a manager who kicked someone out, he stood by the window to the bar I was tending and threw some popcorn at it.

Not as big a deal as you claim it to be, but then youve never held a job so I wouldnt really expect you to be familiar with such situations.

When I worked a restaurant, they said losing one customer was like losing four. Because the one you drive away is going to give terrible word of mouth to at least three of their friends.

So they should really be looking at it as an investment. Throw out one racist bitch and you cut loose three extra racist bastards for free.

The whole 'deserving/not deserving to get fired' is kind of just theoretical shit. Olive Garden didn't fire the manager because of any sort of morality, it's just a PR decision because you don't want your brand being associated even tangentially with racism. Cutting loose some jabroni who made a poor decision is the obvious choice, even if they're a saint. The most unfortunate thing here is that they don't identify the customer, who is the worst person in the story.

This wasnt a drunk. This wasnt two customers getting into a fight. Those situations have only one, obvious choice.

This was a lady who is causing trouble and said gimme someone else and Ill stop causing a scene.

If you think she would just leave if asked, youre delusional. The manager went with the easy choice, albeit the wrong one. Just swap servers.

Life is about picking your battles. On a Saturday dinner rush, you need to move customers in and out. The manager tried to pick the choice that DISPRUPTS the least amount of people. That includes other customers actively dining and those waiting to be seated.

Unfortunately it obviously backfired, but to agree they should be fired is ridiculous. This era of firing everyone for every mistake possible (except police and politicians I guess) is repulsive.

Just look at the article and how onlookers disagreed with how the manager handled it. Fuck their opinions.

When I was host at TGI Fridays, two guys who had beef ate out the same night. I sat them unknowingly next to each other and things got heated. Some nitwit at an adjacent table had the nerve to request a to go box because them about to fucking fight was too much for them. As if that was my priority.

How about instead of potentially ruining peoples lives for ONE mistake, we fucking coach it. Jesus.

He made the wrong call, period. This wasn't some "Sophie's Choice" or anything close to a "no win" situation.

Manager made a bad call. Shouldn't have been fired, should have to go through training on how to handle this situation properly. The company itself doesn't care abwthe employees and is always going to side with the customer's complaints. People can be mad at the manager all they want, either way their job is on the line for either starting a scene or handling the scene poorly. Retail and fast food jobs are just ass in general.

The manager tried to make her stop causing it. Judging from the article, the manager did a poor job attending the employees who were emotionally affected. I dont think the racist kept causing a scene, though I can obviously be wrong.
