I just watched it, and was bored out of my mind the entire fucking time.

When the home invasion scene happened at the end, when Rick was talking to Sharon at the box, I turned to my wife and said So after who knows how long, I am FINALLY starting to enjoy this movie and it literally ended one minute later.

I honestly laughed myself to tears AT THAT, and have no idea how this was nominated for, or won any awards.

Someone please explain

Brad Pitt was amazing in that movie and Leo actually played a likeable character for once.

Definitely mid-tier Tarantino but still awesome.

Ive seen them all, and this is the first one where Ive ever been bored.

Some of the performances are great (Brad is GREAT, Leo is GREAT), but the sprinkled in character moments are spaced out by like 15 different boring driving sequences.

Then you have the extremely sporadic and random use of narration (was that Kurt Russel?) where its used like once in the first 10 minutes, not used again for over an hour, then used constantly for 20+ minutes. It was disjointed as hell.

Also the driving sequences are awesome for establishing the time period and the perceived closeness of old Hollywood.

I'm with you. Only part of that movie I enjoyed was the part with Bruce Lee and it's only because I appreciated the quality of the Bruce Lee impersonation mostly

Though I'm also of the mind that Hateful Eight was a bore.

I like it when movies put in the journey instead of just the destination

Pulp fiction just wouldn't be the same without the banter about the royale with cheese

The hyper violent sections of his films are sometimes fun, sometimes boring, but I always enjoy the slice of life dialogue

I've mixed feelings about the movie. I feel like I enjoyed it, but have no interest in ever seeing it again. I feel like it could've been a half-hour shorter and not lost a thing.

Theres parts I really like (pretty much all of Leos stuff, Brads visit to the Manson hangout) and stuff I thought could have been done better (the buildup to the climax, Tates involvement)

I think the entire movie kinda just builds on your knowledge of the Tate murders, so when that doesnt actually happen and gives you the Hollywood ending instead its a pretty neat twist. I think I liked it less than the big three but more than Django or Kill Bill.

It could have been over an hour shorter and nothing would be lost.

I fucking love Timothy Olyphant, but his entire subplot could have been completely axed.

There had to have been 10 minutes of driving while period songs play that could have been cut. At a certain point it just masturbation, another excuse to show dirty feet.

The extended scene where Margot Robbie bought a book and then watched the REAL version of the movie? Totally pointless, if I wanted to watch some Dean Martin movie, Id watch it.

I just read a review where the writer said they were so immersed they forgot they were watching a movie, and I felt the exact opposite the entire time. I felt like those people who skip cutscenes in video games must feel: Come on, come on! What benefit does this scene serve?

And the scene with Brad at the Manson ranch was cool until he spent 5 minutes talking to some dude who didnt remember him, and for what? To flip our expectations on their head? Mission accomplished, I guess, I came in excited about finally being entertained, and then Dakota Fanning really DID fuck that old blind guy, oh wow, you got me.

Great film. Top 3 Tarantino. Easily his most noble film when you consider that the entire thing exists to make Sharon Tates legacy about something other than ger death. The fact that ut can pull that off deserves a huge smpunt of praise.

Im the biggest Tarantino fan around, and even I agree that the movie was not good. Its easily his worst film hes ever made (and by a LOT), and when Leo and Brad cant save it then you know its bad, because those two are generally really, really good.

Hollywood will tell you that they liked it because its an ode to their history, but thats not the reason. Hollywood is desperately trying to cover up and ignore the public knowing that theyre all pedo degenerates. Ricky Gervais didnt bitch slap that entire culture on a whim; he knows the public detests those people and would side with him. Check any comment section about it. You cant just ignore Harvey Weinstein, Roman Polansky, or Epstein anymore. I truly think the academy is propping up that movie because it makes Hollywood look good, not because the movie is actually good. It isnt good. I think most people would agree on that point.

But what better attempt than to prop up Weinsteins pal (Tarantino) making a movie that makes Roman Polansky look like a good dude instead of a child rapist piece of shit? And before you say Im just being ridiculous, go look at the list of movies to win best picture. Do you honestly think those movies from the past 15 years or so have won on merit? Its all back scratching with no care for what people actually thought was the best movie that year.

Speaking of, Endgame not even being nominated is just laughably stupid. I read somewhere that its the only #1 all time grossing movie other than Jurassic Park to not get nominated for Best Picture, though Jurassic Park still won a ton of awards. All the other movies to get that top spot were at least nominated for Best Picture, won it outright, and/or got nominated for a bunch of other awards. Endgame got the nod for one. Thats it. Think of how unbelievably stupid that is.

Its even more stupid when you consider Black Panther was nominated for it. Thats not a slight on Black Panther, either. It very much deserved to get nominated. We all know Endgame wouldnt have won Best Picture, but it should get the token nomination to celebrate its achievement at the box office. Hollywood constantly trying to pretend the MCU doesnt exist shows how out of touch they are with what people actually think, and its why people stopped giving a shit about the oscars. Why bother when it doesnt at all line up with how people actually feel?

tl;dr - I agree that the movie was trash and I feel Hollywood is propping it up for sinister reasons.

(Joker was the honest to goodness best movie in 2019.)
Black Panther didn't deserve the nod.

Joker was okay but there were a lot of good movies this year and Joker wasnt even the best comic book movie. Definitely by far the weakest of the six best picture nominees Ive seen, and it got some absurd number of nominations (I wanna say 11?). Todd Phillips getting a director nom over Greta Gerwig is particularly egregious.

Yeah the movie is basically a plotless period piece that relies on your appreciation for that. My fiance was pretty into it but I thought it was only okay with some memorable bits sprinkled in. Probably at the bottom of my rankings of the ones I've seen. It's a toss up between that and H8 but I gave no desire to watch either again.

Also one of my favorite moments is the flashback that lasts a long time and contains another flashback, only to cut back to Brad Pitt on the roof chuckling and saying "Oh, right"

Absolutely fantastic movie but clearly not for everyone. If you don't care about the setting or the Manson stuff then yeah you're obviously not going to have a good time.

I think it's an especially cool movie in comparison to Inglorious Basterds, Tarantino's other big alternate history film. It's fun to see how much specificity was needed to alter history in that movie, while in Hollywood, all it took was two completely unrelated guys just living their lives to change one of the city's most grisly moments.
