Heres my logic for why I pick MGS4:

Unless youre picking something fairly recent, even by forgetting [Great Game], youre still going to remember and have context for all the games inspired by it, which would lessen the mind-blowing impact of the re-experience.

MGS4 is a singularly unique game in that its entire merit is based on plot revelations and callbacks built up on a foundation of releases spanning a decade. Its an entire game of fanservice and nothing else. That would still track as amazing. And nothing post-MGS4 has really ever tried to mimic it.

If all knowledge of the game gets wiped, then absolutely FFVII. That game would have blown my mind if I had played it without already knowing half the plot from random spoilers over the years.

Otherwise I might go with Symphony of the Night or Metroid Prime. Definitely some exploration-heavy game.

The Resident Evil 4 demo for the Gamecube. I had to turn the game off after the chainsaw dude beheaded me the first time I thought I was going to have nightmares.

I believe it came out what January 2005 (full game).

The best part looking back was that the demo disc for RE4 was literally the Gamecubes GOTY for 2004.

Probably the original Resident Evil. My first real survival horror experience, not knowing where to go or how to conserve ammo effectively, getting unique scenes I rarely ever seen anymore unless I'm going for them since I just know all the effective routes now. Yeah, experiencing that again would be a sure treat!

No shit

For some reason I know a few people who have done this and then say they don't like MGS. It's the finale, what do you expect. That said, 1 2 and 3 all are fine to play as your first. But it's all way better played in order.

Glad to see life is strange getting some love, it was my second thought.

First was spore. It's just such an interesting game idea, but I find the space stage so underwhelming it takes the wind out of my sails going back.

Some other thoughts:

-Super Mario 64 (my all-time favorite game, so of course I would love to go back and experience it anew again)
-Pokemon Red/Blue (the first time through was just magical; of course, it is important that I temporarily forget all future Pokemon games as well)
-The Sexy Brutale (unlocking the mansion piece by piece was so fun, and solving the puzzles and the mystery was cool; I'd love to replay this someday but it just wouldn't be entirely the same)

I actually really liked it! The last boss fight was totally ruined though because I had a crappy 3rd party controller that couldn't differentiate between tapping a button and holding it
