It's just an interesting match because you don't think of Final Fantasy as Loser Central, but both of those games get completely smoked by FFXII, which set the standard for crappy mainline Final Fantasy performances.

I'd give Dragon Quest XI a good shot against FFXV. All FFXV has in its corner is being Final Fantasy, while Dragon Quest has the ever valuable 'being an RPG on a Nintendo system' factor going for it.

DKC2 with a slight win over Fire Emblem Awakening and FF15 had a slight win over Pokemon Sun/Moon. I'd take Pokemon over Fire Emblem so I would at least give FF15 a shot at DKC2.

I think the way things concluded with FFXV (with Tabata being let go and the last two DLC episodes just being outright canceled) left a soured impression on the game overall, even among people like me who actually enjoyed it. I don't expect much of it, even though I nominated it.

I haven't played FFXV but this was my takeaway as well - I felt like people had a really bad taste in their mouth with how FFXV didn't ultimately live up to initial promises of what it was going to be and that's going to hurt it a lot

Looks like Fire Emblem is doing a lot better compared to yesterday. What RE2 did yesterday was comparable to FFXV in the 9-way GotY poll.

FFXV vs. Pokemon Sun/Moon - 57.21% (9-way GotY)
RE2 vs. Fire Emblem - 57.47% (yesterday)

RE2 has now dropped off to 52.26% on Fire Emblem. Pokemon outright won the 3-way poll over FFXV, though that was with the help of a late rally push at the end to hold on.

Absolutely nothing caught a meaningful rally during the last Character Battle, and this was despite numerous attempts to rally every fucking entrant, including (correct me if I'm wrong) Sans, who got destroyed by Pac-Man.

I know 2013 and 2015 left us shell-shocked, but it's been almost five years since that last games contest, and based on the two contests since then, I really feel Allen wants that rally-door to remain closed. I'll be predicting this bracket with the assumption that zero rally attempts gain traction.

I think Undertale is still very weak based on Sans' performance last contest, but the field as a whole is also so weak it could win a match.

When people say a game like Skyward Sword, MGSV, FF15, or more recently KH3 or Sekiro has had mixed GameFAQs reception, they don't (or at least shouldn't) mean mixed as in a near-even split of people who liked and disliked the game in question. In those cases, "mixed" means that most people still liked those games, but there's a sizeable, often vocal minority who didn't.

It's hard not to know about the fanbase backlash, but that's clearly translated even past release, based on Sword's awful 3.00 average rating, while Shield is slightly better off at 3.18 - not to mention their terrible GotY showing. While the former could be affected by salty fans who haven't actually played the games, any such effect probably isn't major if Undertale's sterling 4.26 average rating on PC is anything to attest to. As such, I think it would be a mistake to take it for granted that such hated games aren't fodder in 2020 just because they're the newest installment of mainline Pokmon.

Oh I didn't know Sword/Shield had backlash. Haven't been keeping up with the pokemon fandom lately.

Has Sekiro had a mixed GameFAQs reception? It seems like it is fairly strong, probably above KH3 now, and may have gotten stronger. Also I'm just playing it now and can't believe I let this one slip by, great game.

Regarding the main thrust if the topic, remakes are doing well because these specific remakes, especially RE2, are functionally new games (or in the case of DQ, the game that should have been the original release). In the remake/remaster poll how much the game felt new was directly proportional to strength.

Regarding GOTY this year, Nintendo's slate is a mystery but there is a very real chance that BOTW2 comes out this year. Of announced games I would not be shocked to see The Last of Us Part 2 beat FF7, it depends on the reception.
