Somehow the trailer is even lamer than the first.

Can we just spare a thought for the poor animators who probably had to work ridiculous crunch hours that they were not properly compensated for and put out a really nice job regardless in a stupidly small time window

I get like no weird vibes from this sonic at all, it's really nice!

but holy shit the movie just looks interminably bad

I thought the humor was a lot more on point in this trailer. Looks legitimately pretty good now.

And obviously Sonic looks a million times better. No idea why they thought the other design was good enough.

This is pretty much the point of the movie existing in the first place

I'm not really sure what people were expecting otherwise. Sonic isn't exactly known for its fascinating story. It's Robotnik vs. Sonic because ???.

Which is exactly what this movie is.

Just kinda gotta accept that you've grown up beyond the target audience that the jokes will land with.

Dammit now I'm mildly excited for this in a positive way. I'd rather have continued to be super hyped for it in a negative can't-tear-my-eyes-away-from-this-trainwreck kind of way. Grrr, they should've said "fuck the spoiled angry internet nerds" and kept Sonic's dumpster fire design. At least the negative publicity would've made the movie some box office success (lol like the man children refusing to see the original concept because not MAH Sonic would've really affected all that much). Now it's probably going to perform just slightly above average.

I actually laughed out loud for the rubber band ball joke for the record. I think it was because of the blank face the guy makes while Sonic plays with his paddle ball. Overall this trailer is a significant improvement on the first, with plenty of good moments, but no really stellar ones aside from the one that made me laugh. Movie will probably be slightly above average standard family affair like I implied. Also Supersonic works way better than Gangsta Paradise and I have no clue who thought that was a good idea, but I hope whoever did was promptly removed from the marketing team.

Yeah, but Detective Pikachu had enough nostalgia throwbacks that I think people kinda overlooked the cringeworthy story and writing.

What makes Sonic cool and fun to kids is groanworthy to us, so it's tougher to bridge the gap, there.

No even the jokes and humor in the Detective Pikachu trailers were MILES ahead of this Sonic trailer

Sonic looks good, movie still doesn't. Actually this trailer made it look worse to me even unfortunately.

Also don't agree with the "The trainwreck was more interesting" mentality.

The movie itself will probably be tame overall. Sonic looking.... nothing like Sonic wouldn't make it more enjoyable. Previously it didn't give off the vibe of "entertainingly bad" just "bad".

There's "Star Wars prequels" bad, and then there's "The Last Airbender" bad.

Actually rewatching it I think my biggest gripe is Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey, as weird as that sounds. I dunno, it came off not as great as when he does it in other movies to me so far. I'm fine with Sonic himself and his personality. That whole car insurance line was pretty oof but other than that, yea it's fine.

So I think the human component is gonna be the weakest thing about this movie and Sonic will be fine, which I guess it what should be expected

I really like the new look even though I feel bad all those guys had to redo so much.

Jim Carrey was the best part of that trailer, imo. Ham it up all the way to the sky, Jim! The rest of the movie seems very cookie cutter. The dude seems bland as hell but I guess he had no choice but to play the straight man to this campfest of a cast.

I had the same issue with Detective Pikachu's incessant need to spew hit or miss (mostly miss, to me) one-liners but it looks inoffensive enough.

This is the whole problem with this movie in my opinion. They're going to set up a sequel where they go to Sonic's world and deal with Tails and Knuckles and blah blah that's a way more interesting movie.

Just start with the interesting sequel or get us there faster. We don't need an origin movie for Sonic and Robotnik's conflict.

Honestly that trailer was actually pretty great, not just compared to the original. I mean, it looks cheesy and goofy and dumb, but I don't really have a problem with that. I think it'll still be terrible, but at least it made me smile.

I wonder how much of the movie they changed aside from the new CG on Sonic? That Green Hill Zone part wasn't in the original cut, and I'm betting some of the full CG sequences are probably new too. In the original script wasn't it supposed to be that Sonic had been in our world for years? It looks like in this cut it's been more recent, and I feel a lot of the "Sonic goofing around in our world before he's discovered" stuff is new. It'd be really interesting to know what all the differences are.

This movie actually looks pretty decent. Considering it's Sonic, I mean, he runs fast. That's his whole story. And with his revamped appearance I'm looking forward to those speed scenes in the movie.

The human character is whatever, he kinda has to be there unfortunately.

But then you have Jim Carrey, and if anyone was a fan of him in the 90s then I don't see how you can't be excited to see that version of him again. I sure as hell am.
