it's really sad how far this franchise has fallen since the greatness of gen 5. GF is showing that the hardware limitations of the pre-3DS handhelds was a giant boon for them. they have absolutely no idea what they're doing when they have to fill in more details and leave less to the imagination

I wish this could have been average, at least, instead of aggressively terrible. This is the first time since Ruby Ive had a system capable of playing the pokmon games.

In most games, if you hold a series of buttons, such as L, R, -, and + at the same time, the software will reset. You go back to the title screen. This can't be done in SwSh. You'd have to hit the home button, close the software, then start the game again. This can add an extra 20 seconds or so, which adds up when you're doing it repeatedly.

Another note, this game carried over the downgrade from Let's Go where you can't reset for events anymore.

Also like in Let's Go, the exp share is automatic, and cannot be turned off. It's not the biggest deal in the world, but it's objectively bad to remove an option for literally zero benefit.

@EzeDoesIt like lets say you want a female starter or something. In past games you would save right besides the Pokeball of the starter you want, then pick the starter. And if you got what you wanted then cool. But if you didn't then you could have pressed a button combination to go back to the game's main menu. (Like pressing L + R + Start + Select at the same time.)

It made situations like getting a female starter slightly easier to go through than turning off the game then turning it back on again. It's not a huge deal, but it's something that makes you think "Why is it even gone in the first place when every other game gave you that option? Lol" kind of thing. Lol

The removed moves list is pretty odd. It feels like a lot of them have more to do with "the signature Pokemon for this move isn't in the game", but what about transferring something that knows flash? It won't let you?

I'm still going to get it because my wife also wants to play it, but if it were just for me I'd probably put it off till I could find it used. Sun and moon were really unfun and it sounds like they doubled down on what made those bad.

The game looks like it has legitimate issues, but I don't think the graphics look that bad and I don't care too much about the moves. This game series has been adding new Pokemon for decades at this point, and while the cuts are a bit excessive, I don't think it's unreasonable to leave a bunch of Pokemon out.

Here's my main beef with the backlash. People have been clamoring for the next generation of Pokemon ever since the Switch launched. Everyone jumped all over Pokemon Switch's nuts before Let's Go was even in development, making the same unreasonably high demands as always that amount to "Skyrim, but with Pokemon". Fans were in full leak mode when the Pokemon Company started getting coy about a new project - which ended up being Let's Go - and when the game was set to launch, places like the Nintendo Switch board on GameFAQs were instantly ass-blasted, demanding Generation 8 this year, in 2019.

To facilitate this release date, Game Freak have basically had to crunch out a new Pokemon game in about the span of a year. Let's Go probably contributed towards some R&D stuff that SwSh needed, but the fact remains that for another full tits-out release like the Sun/Moon game would have taken more than a year. But the vocal minority of batshit crazy hardcore fans have been out in full force - so the Pokemon Company have been hard at work putting this game together. I wouldn't be surprised if it came out later that SwSh had a very tumultuous development.

There are some valid complaints so far, but frankly I'm not so keen to go chugging the fandom koolaid yet. After all, this is a fanbase that gets off on being completely and utterly insufferable at every turn. The Pokemon Company were set to announce Sun and Moon at a certain date and time, and a fucking slew of data miners leaked the names Sun and Moon 24 hours before it was set to be announced - all that hype, wasted in a couple of minutes by leakers. When Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby released, the conversation instantly switched over to "Okay, cool, now where's the Diamond/Pearl remakes?" Every new installment since X and Y has been under the fucking microscope from the toxic side of the fanbase, it never ends with you people.

Does the Pokemon Company make mistakes? Sure. Frankly I haven't played a Pokemon game since Platinum because I didn't like it as much as Emerald, and I've paid enough attention to hear the positives and negatives of each new generation as they've come out. Game Freak aren't perfect, but they're working under a lot of pressure to meet the expectations of a fuckton of rabid anal-retentive fans, and even at their worst I think the most toxic side of the fanbase is blowing some things out of proportion.

I'm waiting until SwSh comes out before I buy it, and I don't doubt that it's gonna be compromised to some degree. But I wholeheartedly disagree that it's going to be the complete and utter trainwreck that it's being made out to be. Calm the fuck down, let the game launch, buy it if/when you're good and ready and move on with your life, because the way that some people are just dropping their fucking bowels on everything is stupid as fuck.

So I'm not as well versed in Pokemon as I used to be, but at least some of these features are implemented in a handful of games in the first place.

To my knowledge, ball seals were confined to Generation 4. Following Pokemon has had a pretty spotty history to begin with, with massive gaps between Pokemon Yellow and HGSS, and a shorter gap between that and... what, ORAS? Sun/Moon? Let's Go? Soar looks neat, but did it appear in more than one game generation? A grand majority of Pokemon games don't have a changeable difficulty mode. Most of this shit is confined to one Pokemon generation only, and some carry-over features have only appeared in two or three games themselves.

Roaming Legendaries were considered a giant pain in the ass when I was a more active fan. What, you really want to chase these shitty, constantly fleeing monsters across a world map, wasting your time for hours trying to get that RNG? Fuck roaming legendaries, they suck.

This happens every time. The new game is Satan - it's rushed and shitty, none of the "good" stuff is in it, everything bad they did last time is worse now. Sometimes it's not an unjust accusation, but this happens for every single new Pokemon generation, in a massive wave of horse shit weeks or months before it releases. And in 10-15 years, the same fuckasses will be begging for a remaster because they've had a chance to play the game and let it settle in. Do you remember how many people swore off Hoenn, or Sinnoh, only to spend the next decade campaigning for remakes?

i'm not defending this game, but "nintendrone" makes no sense in 2019 when compared to all the other AAA developers they are one of the best. sure this game looks bad but its one bad game in an ocean of great games nintendo publishes

Seriously. After Gen 5 I thought the best was yet to come. Turns out that was their peak.

I have zero interest in this game and that'll probably stay that way until it becomes $30 minimum, maybe $20.
