I've never actually played any game with Lightning in it

But that top 5 was so underwhelming, Lightning got my vote from that point on anyway! Just based on design, she's better than most other characters I know nothing about, so she does have that going for her, I guess. So I think she may be a decent character? Congrats to the Lightning fans!

I'm really hoping that next contest is the contest Galuf can make a good run in. There's a bunch of others I'd like to see do well, but I think he's really due.

yes, poor memories of this because I am still 99% sure Vivi actually won this match due to alt voting, from someone that later confessed the account I thought was an alt of his was all along. I'm still certain he used both accounts in this final, and given it was so close then yeah, Vivi should actually be a 3 time champion. Even so, the match was contested tightly and at least entertaining. Even if I have a level of envy and disdain for how Gilgamesh actually won....

SSS Finals:
Zell vs. Yuffie (CX) - The culmination of a very long journey, and two high end characters to boot. Throw in the highest (at the time, now second highest) blowout and it was just very satisfying overall.

SS Finals:
Gilgamesh vs. Vivi (CXI) - The second half of Zellgamesh rolling through, even in a squeaker, was fun to see play out. I've certainly paid the price for seeing this double glory, but we all know I still think it was "worth it." (Plus Vivi lost, so bonus points).

Zack vs. Squall (CXIV) - The second highest pound for pound character quality final, and my second favorite character scoops up a win. The last real amazing final we've had.

Marche vs. Lightning (CXIII) - A necessary, rather amazing, conclusion. Lightning loses and The World Destroyer is a piece of contest lore that will never be forgotton.

S Finals:
Cloud vs. Laguna (CXIX) - Could have done with a better winner, but above average quality overall.

Rydia vs. Cloud (CXV) - Had the better winner, still above average in quality.

A Finals:
Tidus vs. Kefka (CXVI) - Disasterous winner, but fun from a competitive standpoint.

Steiner vs. Lightning (CXVII) - This is as high as you can get from just Lightning losing. Should have been like 80 other characters doing the honors though.

B Finals:
Celes vs. Kuja (CIII) - Celes is fine, Kuja didn't win.

Balthier vs. Zidane (CVIII) - Balthier is fine, Zidane didn't win again.

Cecil vs. Zidane (CI) - Cecili is fine, Zidane didn't win.

C Finals:
Auron vs. Sabin (CIX) - Sabin really should have won this one, but this was probably the first JUSTICE run after the CII debacle.

D Finals:
Kuja vs. Terra (CVII) - I begrudgingly accept Kuja since he is not-Terra.

Vivi vs. Rydia (CIV) - Had Rydia just won here, CXV never would have happened and CXVIII wouldn't have been so miserable. Butterfly effect and all that.

Reno vs. Kuja (CV) - On one hand, a yaoi picture literally won SMFFFC. On the other hand, Kuja losing again was amusing.

Edgar vs. Tifa (CVI) - Snooze zone. Not even the people who pushed these characters wanted to vote for them in the end. That pretty much says it all.

F Finals:
Zidane vs. Ashe (CXII) - Holy shit did Ashe deserve so much better than... than this.

Fang vs. Cid Pollendina (CXX) - I didn't see this one exist, so it hurts less. But like, an amputated limb over a headshot.

Vivi vs. Locke (CXVIII) - SEETHING former winner hate. And it burns twice as much since he did it against a legitimately good character.

Lightning vs. Edward (CXXI) - SEETHING Lightning hate. And the Edward comics were the best propaganda since Marche too.

Lulu vs. Auron (CII) - partystar cheated, bragged that he cheated, gave as our pound for pound least compelling duo and THEN had Lulu win. And raytan was like... *shrug*

A comic series that literally said "I am just going for second place" isn't really great propaganda if you want to get technical. Not a knock against the effort or quality or anything, but as a tool to actually get a win I feel that's counterintuitive.

Lightning was a special beast this year. Like Steiner/Rydia/probably a few other before them where the outcome was known from the start if they got to the finals.

The only way Edward beats Auron in a final is if Auron somehow beats Lightning into the top 2 (was never gonna happen tbh) and Auron support base drag Edward as a sacrificial goat, burning Lightning support base enough to the point where they spite vote Edward.

There is no other scenario in which Edward possibly beats casual powerhouse (but SMFFFC regular underdog) Auron. Not even with comix.

Just basing things off of GUT and HISTORY.

The difference with Edward and other unstoppable juggernauts like Marche or Steiner is that he was always very much stoppable. I was convinced of Edward's demise in 4th actually. He limped through these rounds and just barely made it into the finals. That didn't happen with the other historical scenarios; Lightning felt very much the underdog against Marche and Steiner.

partystar story isn't even exciting. He loved Lulu, joined like 25% of the way in, rallied and alt voted the entire time, bragged about doing both once his consortium outnumbered the original playerbase.

This was before SMFFFC had any real lore or status so afterwards it was just *shrug*.

Edward would in no way at all beat Auron, his comics strength has been straggling along the last few rounds - topping Kefka because VI messed up and thought Kefka was safe, then had a *massive* goat rush to the finish line in the semis for Light to steamroll.

Auron would do plenty fine with the casual vote, repeat winner isn't much a factor these days.

Edward was just an absolute perfect goat, it's hard to really think of any better. It's a character that's honestly pretty disliked among the IV cast.

Honestly the year of XIII propaganda was pretty unreal.

The entire party got in and made the top forty. After Lightning got lawyered there was three XIII characters in the top ten, it was crazy

I think I stated that Fang was the most likely winner just because she was the least divisive of the bunch a year before that too but I wasnt expecting that
