I gotta say, this was a great contest all around. definitely the most fun SMFFFC in the past few years.

I didn't like the ending, but that's pretty common - I dislike a lot of characters and a lot of endings. but with Lea's comics and just general chatting with FFD/Quinton/GMUN/etc. it was a good time.

Yeah, and you can't even blame it on the quality of characters because even Zell/Yuffie beat it. Was everyone just burnt out on the contest at that point?

Zell/Yuffie is pound for pound probably the best final we've had.

And yeah, Tifa got seriously Vlado'd around that time and no one really wanted to vote for Edgar so... Most people just didn't vote.

possible, SMFFFCs used to be more than 1 per year... I can say people were pretty burnt out at SMFFFC VI-2!

I'm not fretting about it, I don't think IV is a bad game. I'm just saying these are weaklings, historically, from the same game and a character from another game that's the same crushed both in the finals over the last two years. It's so boring and I'm not sure what it is about this contest and predictable endings, but I'd say at least half the time you know who is the winning before the match starts. There's never any competition, and in the most popular "competition" on the board that feels a bit wrong. I mean Edward for instance needed 22 votes to reach the finals, right? He didn't even get those 22 voters in this final (or else he'd have had 220 votes). He didn't even get close to that. I mean I know trades were a thing obviously, but there was just zero excitement or interest to be had here for any side. Whether you wanted Lightning to win or not, you knew she was winning regardless of that and just... I don't see what fun there was to be had without the sense of competition that this contest is known for.

Maybe I'm weird but I rather a final that is actually fairly close and contested/iconic. If Auron had been in Lightning's position in that final 3 I would absolutely still try to bring Lightning in because I think that would have been a really neat final as opposed to bringing in Edward to get stomped for an easy Auron victory.
