In PA/MI/WI/FL/AZ/NC you have Biden squeaking by Trump in 4 of them (All but NC; MI is a tie. Leads others by about 3). Sanders in 3 (Rust Belt). Warren in 1 (Arizona. Tied in PA/WI. Losing MI by 6).

2nd Circuit of Appeals ruled that Trump's tax returns must be turned over to an NY grand jury and rejected his argument that he's immune from criminal investigation while president.

3 judge panel. Not sure if the next stop is the full appeals court or SCOTUS. I'd assume the former but I'm not sure and the CNBC article isn't that clear. It notes it's likely to go to SCOTUS but I mean.. duh... it would be regardless.

I think Trump has a very good chance of winning, unfortunately. You've got a lot of uninformed voters who only watch FOX News, moderates and centrists who'll gladly give Trump the white house if it means keeping out a progressive, progressive's who'll gladly give Trump the white house if it means keeping out a centrist Democrat. (nevermind that a Trump victory could give conservatives the Supreme Court for DECADES. Which you can be sure a lot of them are salivating over like rabid dogs) And you can be sure that Russia will be out in full force doing their best to get Trump a second term. (Whether it's with his cooperation or not)

Democrats can't even agree on major issues like healthcare reform. Part of the party wants to expand Obamacare, but keep health insurance a private industry. And part of the party wants Universal Care, because they feel health insurance should NOT be something people profit off of. And it's an issue that divides us. I think Cory Booker (whom I disagree with on major issues, especially School Choice) is right when he said that Democrats shouldn't be tearing each other down over these issues. It only works to Trump's benefit. Which works to America's detriment. And unfortunately with such a large crowd of contenders, we don't appear to be standing as a united front against the abomination that is the Trump Presidency.

I think you have to take that poll with a grain of salt. I've seen plenty of criticisms basically saying that 1) the margins between Biden and Bernie/Warren are pretty similar to their usual margins which means 2) the real difference is the generic Dem v Trump poll and 3) all of this is within the poll's margin of error anyways.

That's not to try to discount Biden's current poll advantage or a Trump victory. Trump always had a decent shot of winning reelection. Every candidate will have their work cut out for them and can't just coast to election. That never wasn't the case, but I also don't think it's all doomed.

I'm fairly confident Biden would win an election against Trump. He's consistently able to get above 50% in polls, and what I've learned from watching this stuff over the past 10 years, is that if you're able to break 50% this far out, you generally win short of some massive scandal/blunder. Everyone else is still up in the air, IMO.

Biden is the "friendly" option this far out, but if he becomes the nominee, people are going to ask themselves if they really want a Democrat. And a lot of people are going to vote for the mean Republican over the nice Democrat.

Oh, don't get me wrong, his lead will totally decrease from where it is now. I'm just saying that there tend to be limits on these kinds of things, and getting to 50% this consistently, (and during a competitive primary at that), tends to be the limit. This is the Trump administration we're dealing with though, so the potential for some kind of Black Swan event is always present.

I'm actually doubtful that a second Trump term would change the court dramatically. I could see Clarence Thomas retiring toward the end with a favorable president/senate to nominate his successor. But the Democrats will literally reanimate RBG's corpse for as long as possible until they have another Dem in office.

It might not matter now, but it'd be huge for the right in the long term. Realistically, there's no possibility for a left-leaning majority on the court until at least the 2030s. If Trump gets to replace RBG and/or Breyer with younger GOP justices, that gets pushed back another couple of decades. Even just having Thomas retire for someone younger would be a huge blow for the left.

However, since voting, I have learned that some fucking morons honestly believe that some people are currently trying to institute an income tax in Texas (there is a state constitutional amendment on the ballot that would make it harder to do so even though it already requires a public referendum. This amendment also changes the wording of an existing law in a way that could open up legal challenges to existing corporate taxes). And when I asked the people I met who thought that this amendment failing would result in an income tax being instutited why they thought it would, they called me a liar for claiming there still wouldn't be one. Even though they couldn't provide any evidence there would be one (because there isn't any)

Almost nobody was there. Plenty of people outside, including a woman running for office. (Was already planning on voting for her, but it was nice actually meeting her. First time I actually met a candidate) but not many people inside.

Damn I thought that was solely political grandstanding (it would be extremely difficult to pass state income tax as-is, so it seemed pointless) but I didnt know it opened corporate loopholes. Unfortunate, I expect that one to pass easily.

Oh I just found that according to an article in the Tribune, the state legislature amended the tax code itself at the last minute instead of the bill. So good news, but the Senator pushing to close the loophole says some corp might still decide to try to challenge it.

That doesn't prove causation though. Conspiracy theories always play well because it makes people feel better to think there is some grand scheme working against them rather than individual people with terrible ideas.

All I see is a politician flip flopping their position because of opportunity (there is space to the right of Warren and could be even more space when Biden inevitably collapses in on himself like a dying star). There isn't any space left of Warren and she has already established herself as a strong voice in the realm between the far left and the moderate left. Pete's only option is to go right.
