So we were reviewing support tickets for the company I work for. We needed to check what our clients like and disliked about the product.

Then we ran a report for product satiafaction based on age range... The satisfaction metrics for boomers was way lower than for other groups. It was not about 'being older' because clients who were 75+ had a much higher satisfaction average and usually were happy the CSRs assisted them.

These were the Common trends among boomers:

1) Blaming the CSRs for things that were actually their fault.

2) Keep saying the product didn't work when it actually did.

3) Didn't follow troubleshoting steps and actually lied tellig our CSRs they actally did.

4) Lied about using Internet Explorer(we caught many instances that when caught, they said they didn't want to use Chrome, Firefox, Brave or even Edge.

5)(This one was not as common as the others but still significant) If the CSR had an slight accent(even american accent for british customers and british accent for american customers) they pretended they didn't undestand the CSRs when they clearly did.

6) Demanded that we as develpers 'fixed' the product to support Windows XP, their Iphone 4 etc.

Sorry for my grammar I just typed this i a hurry afther the meeting. It was just hilarious to read their complaints.

As a Boomer who has had computers in my home, desk and lap tops, since 1990 starting with a Dos OS and currently running Windows 7. I've never needed a CSR for any program or problem. I don't know why you think it's boomers. My father couldn't figure out how to program the VCR I bought my parents in the 1980s, which baffled me til he passed on in 2001. Mind you he was a genius level IQ and graduated from Harvard in the early 1950s with a GPA of 4.0. He was an engineer who designed Parks and Recreation areas all over the northeast, Kentucky and Michigan. I guess his downfall was any computer tech. The only CSR I ever needed when things went shit at the bank I worked at was when some card they punched was wrong.

9 of every 10 CSR I've dealt with in personal life (like the cable company) have been generally polite but dumb as a box of rocks. Because I know more about how things work there I've actually saved them time and money in making repairs they didn't even know they needed.

In conclusion I'm betting most of your 75+ just lied and said they were satisfied when they weren't, they just know what to be dissatisfied about.

I've met and been in contact with more Millennials that were incompetent than any other age group at this point.

*Age 75+ was virtually tied with Gen X for the second most satisfied group behind Millenials

* Besides having the lowers satisfaction metrics, Boomers lied about actually lied and blamed everything else. Instead of legit complaints about the service like everyone else.

* Millenials were the most satisfied group. Surprisingly Gen Z were the second lowest after boomers, but were nowhere close to them and were actualy closer to the rest.

It is not just Boomers. It is everyone over a certain age, that did not grow up with such tech and later had no interest in it and were then later forced to make use of it, either by society or their bosses.

In my experience it's often boomers that will be bad with tech but refuse to admit it and resist following troubleshooting. Older callers will admit it right away.

Boomer today didn't want to use a browser other than IE. "I have decades worth of bookmarks, you can't get rid of that" fought me so hard and sighed at every single step.

They're also the most common source of tickets where the user reports a non-issue and disagrees with the source of data. Gets tiresome.

The internet has made "boomer" a confusing word. What boomer used to mean was "baby boomer" which seemed to mean people born in some range of 1940s-1960s. Now boomer literally means anyone over 30. When you compare that Millennials are defined as being born as far back as early 1980s, then by today's standards, you can be a boomer and millennial at the same time. Though I think the modern contrast to the modern boomer definition is "zoomer".

Just another way that language grows I suppose.

All I know is that it is either "came of age around the turn of the millennium" or "born around the turn of the millennium". The first group is approaching 40 yeah.

I also understand the word to be a grave insult, so I never use it myself to refer to an entire generation.

it's probably related to anxiety. I've successfully taught my mom that not knowing things doesn't make her stupid, and that the largest barrier to her being able to figure something out is her own patience and willingness to learn. because of this, I can walk her through most things step by step, even if those steps are exceedingly basic.

my dad on the other hand... if he doesn't understand me, it's because I'm an idiot, and if I don't understand him, it's because I'm an idiot. (or insert any demeaning thing you want in place of "idiot", including proclaiming that computers are a form of evil and that I'm evil for knowing about them, etc.etc.)

I just said on the internet it does. Internet language is always evolving. I can't link to all of the famous internet dictionaries, because they often contain language too unsavory for gamefaqs, but on multiple of them, boomer's most highly voted definition refers to being 30. There is the whole 30-year-old boomer meme as well, and if you think meme language isn't a thing, that's fine. But it is about the most common thing you'll see in internet forum speak, so when anyone refers to boomer online, it's very likely they are talking about 30+ considering that is a very common thing the past 2 years online. Which is really all I meant. People obviously use both definitions of 'boomer', but it's very confusing. Adding "baby" to "boomer" typically clears it up though.

The origin doesn't matter though. People misuse things to the point that it becomes true. That's how language evolves. You can go on any forum and see people claiming that boomer means 30+. Saying it's wrong is silly, because you'd have to tear the fabric of language evolution apart. Boomer IS used to mean 30+ very commonly online.

Keep in mind, I'm not arguing against the older definition of it. I'm saying that "boomer" has taken on contrasting definitions online, which makes conversations often confusing if there is no context (there is here, of course, so it's not an issue).

1) We reviewed 30 out of 112 recorded calls where the boomer customer submited feedback complaining about the CSR accent. All 25 of us in the product team department agreed that the CSR were very easy to understand. Some of the customers were just plain racist using slurs and 1 was just plain stupid where this Lady with a thick redneck accent told a British guy to 'Learn English'

2) The pool was 125,000 support tickets. 27,566 from Boomers. Millenials were at 94.98% Gen X was at 92.67% Silent gen was at 92.44%, Gen Z was at 91.20% and Boomers were 81.01%

Sure most boomers are nice they there is a huge gap between them and other users.

You understanding them isn't the same thing as the customer understanding them. You said that the customers clearly understood the CSR, not that your team felt that the CSR was easy to understand. Keep in mind that you've probably listened to these CSRs a lot in the past so you're more likely to be able to discern what somebody with an accent is saying.

The thing about lumping people into these generations is that some of these kids born at the beginning of the generation had a vastly different experience and life outlook then the ones at the end.

I have wondered about the old Boomers, the hippie ones compared to the ones who reached adulthood in the 70s and so on. Plus, the old hippie boomers seem to have a lot in common with a certain amount of millenials with the protests, social justice and environmental concerns. Maybe I am not understanding hippies that much though but looking at them through the lens we have now they seem similar.

I never understood the anger between the millenials and boomers. I mean, they are their kids, they created them. But then I bet each generation has shook their heads at their kids and thought they were terrible and the kids in turn blamed their parents for their problems.

People have been saying that the generation after them will ruin society since the B.C. times. Also, Boomers fucked up our economy and blame the Milenials for what they did, calling us lazy, stupid, etc... What they don't realize is that we have to make a lot more and live way more frugally in order for is to have a similar lifestyle to what they had back then.

This is why lumping any generation is not fruitful to any discussion of this. It wasn't all boomers. It was the entitled sob's from the previous generation of old money passed down, the now 1%ers you can blame for all our miseries. There were many in all generations who attempted to reform the system and were blocked by the moneyed few. Blaming the boomers is like blaming the sun.

I may not have been particularly successful money wise but I am proud of how I lived my life and raised my daughter.

Yep. I'm an Xer and I just look at both and scratch my head at the finger pointing.

The anger and the finger pointing has never done anything but allow the 1%ers to screw us all over. If we had worked together instead they wouldn't have everyone in such a stranglehold. Just keep voting those "honest" politicians back in office though.

It's never been any particular generation at fault, it's all of us.

You guys voted in Reagan not once, but twice. Also, the overwhelming number of boomers voted in Trump who's been doing his best to make the rich richer.

So, I think the Boomers have a lot to do with this.

The first one sound like Star Trek fans

hello, computer...

There are some boomers that use voice programs such as dragon to do their work with; so it would explain why they talk to the mouse. That and of course the famous scene with Commander Scott from the movie Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home when he's talking to the computer mouse at the aluminum manufacturer warehouse.
