I've been unemployed for two months now. I've exhausted pretty much every single job listing and every single company I have seen on Indeed, LinkedIn (Premium, which does fucking NOTHING), ZipRecruiter, Monster (which is the worst site on the planet), and CareerBuilder.

Yesterday I had two interviews

The first I felt like it went awful, then six hours later the guy calls me up and says "CONGRATULATIONS! ... you have been selected as one of the top three candidates for further review!" I feel like you're not allowed to say congratulations unless you're ready to give a fucking job offer but whatever.

The second the external recruiter said it was a slam dunk, my resume was perfect, they wanted to see me personally, I just had to not fuck it up. Well the interview was cut 90 minutes short and the two people didn't even escort me out of the building, they just walked out of the room and I had to pack my shit up and leave alone. I called the external recruiter and he said they contacted him for more candidates.

Job hunting is literally chipping away at my soul, I just sit at home alone wasting my time playing video games. I lost all motivation to eat healthy or exercise, I don't have health insurance so I can't see a therapist or get on anti-depressants. I feel like I put in the time for an engineering degree and I have six years experience, it should not be this hard to find a job. I am willing and able to work it's just there is nothing out there for me. The world is ready to let me rot away and die alone.

now it seems like you've hit a few stumbling blocks. i'm sure you can find your way out of this man, it'll be tough but you can do it. you have an engineering degree ffs, better than my crappy media and comms degree lol

Sounds like you've got some serious issues that are sabotaging your interviews

I would suggest seeking materials on how to perform better during an interview. If you keep getting that far and then failing the problem probably lies with your approach and how you're handling them

I'm also in job hunting mode (although I do have a part-time teaching gig, I'm trying to advance to a full-time position, or at least hold 2 part-times), and despite submitting over 40 applications I have not been invited to a single interview and I'm running out of time until the Fall semester. Of course, I'm probably losing out to people who already have doctorates (I'm just starting mine) or people with intensive private sector experience (I left the private sector in 2014 when I got my first prof position).

Fun thing is that one of the colleges I applied to, for two different jobs, looked me up on LinkedIn last week but didn't reach out to me for an interview. l0l @ me

just hang in there, dude. i spent 3 months unemployed once, and towards the end just felt like an absolute failure because i was barely getting interviews, and having to sell my possessions to make ends meet. at the worst point i just broke down in front of my parents because i couldn't hold it all in anymore. but despite all that i eventually got employed and those days are a distant memory though.

you can get through this. you only really fail once you give up. as long as you keep trying, and take it a day at a time, you will turn this around.

best of luck. i hope you feel better

There's nothing more soul crushing then seeing how nobody wants to buy you. TC must not have a social aura at all because 90 percent of life's bullshit is being connected and charismatic enough that people like you and want to be around you regardless of your qualifications.

I have no idea.

The recruiter said they wanted someone to join their team to be "one of the boys" they could go on golfing trips with a drink beers. Maybe I wasn't "one of the boys" type material. It's strange because the first interviewer told me over the phone that I was one of the best candidates he had ever seen, effective speaker, good demeanor, honestly I thought the interview went like shit so who knows.

Lmao there was no ladder at my last job, it was a fucking nightmare.

Getting fired from my last job was basically like being kicked off a burning boat and tossed into the ocean. Like yeah the boat was warm but it wasn't exactly a long term solution. I would have ended up killing myself if I was forced to continue working there.

I meant the first interview of the day which is with a different company.

I show up on time wearing a full suit and hard copies of my resume. I always present work from my portfolio. I take notes as they are speaking, I have prepared answers to their questions and I have prepared questions for them. I always research the jobs and companies before hand.

I am doing everything right I think it's just my face or my mannerisms or something. Like people see me and naturally dislike me. Something rotten in my core that makes me want to just end it all.

You're even an engineer with a decent background and still having trouble in this atrocious job market. This is the Mcjob market not a job market despite what President Dump keeps telling us. Stocks might be high, but business investment is at a low which means less self sustaining jobs and more Mcjobs. I've been job searching for the past two years and my attempts have been ******* futile. I can't even get a damn phone screens and even the recruiters can't find *****. I feel like if you're not one of "the boys" with social connections than you are doomed.

I feel you buddy. I left high school completely ignorant of the job hunting process, and I spent way too much time fumbling around and feeling my soul chip away with every outright rejection or month/s without call backs. It's a fucking awful situation and I'm sorry that you're stuck in it, job hunting can suck a fat chode.

But come on, don't give up on life. If nothing else, you have a community of people who recognise your name, people who are friendly and who like seeing you around. I know you've gotta think about your current position in the real world and any IRL stuff trumps online sentimentality, but don't go saying something like "I'm about ready to give up on life".

It sounds like youre doing the right things but I wonder what sort of responses you are giving that makes them cut the interview short. You also failed that behavioral survey and thats not a good sign of either. Are you being pessimistic in your interviews or speaking badly of your previous company?

Also that second company sounds sexist af but people will keep pretending there is no discrimination against women in tech sigh

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Also this. My husband has gone through 2 layoffs. First time it took him a year to find something and it was a big cut in pay. Second took him 6 months. We survived and hes really happy at his current job.
