Watched The Wizard of Oz in Japanese yesterday. Great dub. Only bad thing was that the songs weren't dubbed. Though the good part about that is you get to hear Judy Garland sing, but still.

Watching hollywood movies dubbed in Japanese has been a pretty fun way to learn. Plus, a lot of these dubbers are also famous voice actors in video games/anime, so it's fun to hear familiar voices from my JRPGs voicing a hollywood movie.

Finished watching Alice in Wonderland Japanese dub. This one had the songs dubbed too.

Next up, Aladdin.

Crashed the game somehow today, so no OoT updates. Only lost an hour or so, but it killed my motivation.

In other news, if you want to learn technical lingo, play some Metroid Prime. Be warned that it takes a while to get used to the font. It looks almost unreadable until you get used to it. I've been using the Japan from Zero books/YouTube videos to learn. I'm on the second book right now. It's pretty slow paced, but I feel like things are explained well and I'm learning a lot. Might switch over to Genki after this book though, I dunno.

Additionally, I recently started following this guide for learning kanji: https://nihongoshark.com/learn-kanji/ . They're a pain in the ass but I look forward to getting them out of the way. Unfortunately things are gonna slow down soon once this next semester starts back up.

I know is just general word for smell/odor, while is stinky, and is stench, but I don't really know much else, now how to compare smells, or similarly, flavors (aside from oishii and mazui)

I knew odor and oishii since it's just a general word you can use in response to nearly anything pleasant.

It means bad-smelling when read as . One scene that I remember is when the party comes across a burning town in FFIX. Zidane says there, which is meant to be read as , because while burning town may smell bad it doesn't literally smell like shit or rotting eggs or something like that.

It's always a noun.

I don't know for sure. Jisho does seem to agree that is an adjective and a noun, but I can't decipher the Japanese dictionary I use well enough to tell if it agrees. But I assume you're correct.

What about comparing tastes and smells? Like I was asking before, does anyone know if you can use for stuff besides appearances? Or does it literally mean "looks like"?

You definitely use it for other things that are similar. If someone has a similar personality or idea or abstract things like that you can still use it. If you want one that is more strictly for appearance use which often gets translated as "like two peas in a pod", but is actually limited to appearance for the most part, not other similarities.

Been lazy. Found Lucci Quest and marathoned it instead of reading Japanese stuff. Anyway, I don't know if I've posted this before, but this guy's youtube channel is great.
