Mental health issues are fairly common and theres such a wide variety it really shouldnt be a surprise to see high numbers. Lots of people have even mild depression and treating mental health issues can be difficult for a number of reasons too.

I mean, with certain people, it's quite obvious. But such a majority is striking. I expected something like 30-40%.

I would think those who spend exorbitant amount of times on online forums are those who are generally seeking online social interaction. They are much likelier to not excel at interaction in real life / have troubles which preclude a normal social life. Etc.

Not saying it means you have to have an issue, I just think the numbers would be much higher than in the regular populace.

Mental health also has a lot less stigma than before, especially among younger people, so it's more likely for younger folks to be open about it.

I'm also shocked at the high numbers. Board 8ers can be eccentric, and we like arguing too much and get too caught up in contests of all sorts, but I always thought the number of people with legitimate mental health issues (JDTAY and such) was low.

I've never been formally diagnosed with anything, but I highly suspect I have a few mental health issues, particularly reduced affect display which I'm confident about.

Also, for lack of a better way to put it, there's plenty of space in between JDTAY and perfect mental wellness where one can have one or more mental health issues and not be, well, him. If you're looking for JDTAYs as a sign of such, you would do well to change your perceptions about mental health.

It can be but I did it out of desperation and I dont let anyone know about it. Years of struggle and constant failure led me to try anything. I don't check it regularly but it's there and the amount of money I have 'saved' ($2343.18) is actually more impressive to me than the days.

It's easier to admit to myself I will drink again, just not today... then to try and cement the idea that I'm sober forever.

Edit - I dont know exactly what I put as a daily amount it cost me but that must be incorrect as I was spending the same $27 a day every day so it should be more like $4185 but I cant change it now I don't think.

I'm not diagnosed but I think I may have ADHD, based on what I've learned about it since my son was diagnosed. It's difficult to get a diagnosis and they don't really do much for you as an adult though, because I guess they figure if you've made it this far you've figured out coping mechanisms so you can function. Being aware of it does help me handle it though, better understanding what I have trouble with and what I need to do to keep it from causing me problems.
