i had an impossible burger from burger king...but it wasnt vegan because of the mayonnaise. Or I assume. because they put ketchup and mayo their burgers by default, so i assume this did but i can't recall.

next time ill ask for no mayo, to have a true vegan meal...assuming nothing else has meat in it somehow. lettuce, bun, onions, tomato, fries.

Yeah, the mayo they use is normal mayo. They also cook it on the same grill as the meat if that is of any concern for you for any reason. All the ingredients are vegan save the mayo.

The beyond meat burgers at A&W here don't come vegan and you have to ask for no mayo.

If I get one and I'm taking it home I hit it with some hummus

Meat's too cheap around here and meat substitutes are not. (Though they are finally getting more feasible than before.)

And if one more person tells me to 'just eat red beans' I'm going to lose my mind I swear. (Not a jab or assumption about OP, but something I've encountered SO MUCH) I can eat fish without a bunch of fancy seasoning and stuff. Cooking and eating beans just seem to have a... for lack of better descriptor..Flat taste. No matter what I do. That strong and flat bean taste is still there.

I've been poor enough to have to live off of beans and rice before. I'd starve before I went back to that. They're a too much work for so very little pay off.

I have cut out most meat but I have to think about my health. I'd kinda like to do so, but it's not in the cards for me.

What? I mean you could but that's really not the same as substitutions people do all the time

Most people I know ask for something to be removed. Whether it's pickles or onions or ketchup, or even swapping to a gluten free bun. It's a good move to get fresher food. I just don't like mayo so I have requested my burgers without it my entire life.

This. Ordering without mayo isnt really special ordering. Its pretty common to get something not on your burger. Not everyone eats the same stuff on their burger. Then stuff they put on is basically a template. So, that is someone does say what they want, they have something to work with...

I can understand where theyre coming from. Milk was originally just for the white distance from mammals. With the new plant milk, it brings something different. But it does fit the normal definition of milk. So, they call it plant milk rather than just milk. Because it didnt fit under the normal definition of milk.

In the end, I guess you could call it plant cheese, vegan cheese, or fake cheese. But probably not just cheese...

Plants don't have the mammary glands necessary to produce milk. Only mammals do.

Plant milk-substitute would be a more correct way to say it.

That's not wholly accurate. Pigeons and penguins feed their young crop milk. Some spiders feed their young milk. Mammals do it but it's not just mammals. Guarantee there's many more animals that do similar that we haven't observed quite yet.

Milk has been applied to plant based things for longer than I've been alive. Coconut milk or dandelion milk, anyone?

Lol fair.

I don't hate them, and like I can eat them sometimes. Live off them as my main source of protien, like outside of being prepared in some way already? Nah. Soak to cook to end up not right no matter what I do.

I'm not anti-bean so much as anti wasting energy on something that's not enjoyable enough to eat to justify it. I'm pretty picky though. Textures especially, but I don't like food that's so bland no matter how many ways I've tried to dress it up.

That being said I do like some Black bean burgers or salsa. But they don't have that weird flat taste that all the cheaper options that I've been suggested do.

I'm mostly just ehh about people trying to argue that poor people can easily become vegetarian/vegan, suggesting red beans for every meal, and often getting really nasty and implying that someone is a terrible person for not doing that. Like I don't believe OP is like that? But I'll admit I'd like to be vegetarian and am always slightly on guard saying so after some of the stuff I've been told. Like it's a reflex at this point to be like don't tell me to do that I really can't do that. Not again. Never again.

That being said I'm not sure I could ever be vegan. We're finally getting more vegetarian options around where I live, and them not costing an arm and a leg. (Still kinda pricey though.) I have yet to see any sort of cheese stuff, but we do have milk substitutes. Also ice cream. I shouldn't be eating either tbh, I'm lactose intolerant. lol

Funny? story. Asked about not having bacon in something, they said it was fine. Wish they'd been honest and said no. Did not want surprise bacon. Was not happy. Just tell me no so I can pick something else. What if it was a food allergy guys? o.0

Maybe in the future.
For now we just semi-recently got veggie burgers more available that aren't just basically potatoes. I have yet to see it around here. Definitely not in town, but we don't shop in town because the prices are awful.

Ben and Jerry's is good, and not overpriced don't get me wrong, but still too pricey for us. It's not feasible at this time.

We have been able to finally get more substitutes. Keep in mind I'm not a 'bread winner' so it's not fully up to me what we get to eat. That and their general concern for my health. Taking T supplements has seemed to up my need for protein, which is a massive pain.
