I don't like tofu, I wish I did.
Actually my problem is that almost everything I like is either chicken or beef related. I don't like almost any fruits at all (and pretty much just OJ...not even whole oranges). I do like bread and cheese (so pizza), and pasta, but I'm diabetic so I can't eat that much. There are some veggies I like but almost all of them require a meat sauce, or spicy sauce with pork pieces etc. Brocolli is my favorite veggie, but I really need a good meat sauce to go with it, although when I have briefly avoided meat a few times, I can substitute butter. I just don't have enough non-meat choices, and I have mostly called myself a carnivore because of it. I made it like a month without beef at least, would eat a salad every day for lunch and a ton of chicken or shrimp dishes, but yeah, I just don't have enough variety. If they could just make a meat flavored sauce or something, that didn't have meat in it. You don't need to replicate the texture of meat etc like they are trying to do, just make something you can cook with, that simulates the flavor of (well for me beef), and I could eat veggies etc with that, and skip the meat. I like a veggie soup, or a barley soup etc, without meat chunks, as long as the broth has a meat flavor. Alot of Chineese food (At a good place) can simulate or create flavors that make veggies, chicken etc taste delicious, even just string beans (Although I usually like the string beans and pork combo). Sadly there are no good chineese places near me, and try as I might, I have never been able to cook it well myself at home (even back when I had a wok etc). I am still eating WAY less beef though, but I went back to putting it in my pasta sauce (along with itallian sausage (I now use 50% of each and about 1/2 as beef as I used to). I have only had steak once in the last month since moving as well. Wish eating (and actually enjoying my food) was easier for me, meat aside. I don't have many things to look forward to in my life, and food is pretty much the main thing, so it's really important, but it's also really frustrating often. --- We are 4 oreos from Heaven!!!! ... The overarching question is: Why would carnivores and omnivores vote to tax the food that they eat so it becomes more expensive? The answer is they wouldn't. Attempting to predict patterns of behavior does not change this simply because some people hope it changes or because it aligns with their own moral code.
