To make it clear, you would have to say only 15 more years... Or you die in 15 years. Or something similar...

A year ago I would have said yes. Hell, 7 months ago I would have said yes. But I've met someone who makes me want to live a very long time just so we can have more of it together.

Can the money be passed on to my family once I die? If so, then I'd do it. I'm sure my wife would be able to dry her tears on some of those fat stacks of cash.

What about assets I purchase? Can those be passed on? If so, I'd buy a bunch of real estate and pass that on when I die. If nothing can be passed on, then I would absolutely not take the money.

Silly! I'm 72. In 15 years I'll only be 87, merely average longevity, and unless I stack up a plane or sports car, I expect to beat those odds.

Average life expectancy at birth in the USA is 71.5 years. Now that number might trend a bit higher as the years go on, but you are beating the average if you live for a single day past 71.5 years.

No deal. A billion wouldn't elevate my enjoyment of life as it is, especially once the novelty of being rich wore off, and extravagance became just the norm. And the thought of leaving behind pets and loved ones--without recompense--would really put the damper on things.

I would take the offer because I'm not going to live for 15 more years in the first place. In other words, I will be wiped out by natural selection in less than 15 years. I could use the money to help make the short time I have left a good one, especially for others.

I'm 42 now. In 15 years I'd be 57. I'm already starting to feel the aches and pains of old age, and can only assume when I'm almost 60 things will be worse. And I'm not overly keen on prolonging my life solely for the sake of living as long as possible - I'd much rather have a shorter life with consistently high quality of life than a longer life but one where I'm a decaying husk constantly needing medical attention and unable to really do much.

$1 billion could basically make the next 15 years an incredible experience, as I'd use it to help elevate the lives of some of my friends, and use the rest to travel and generally just have adventures. Could even easily start to do even riskier things towards the end of my time, because if you already know that you're dying in a few months regardless, what's stopping you from pulling a Felix Baumgartner and skydiving out of the stratosphere or buying a high-end sports car and driving it at 250 mph? Towards the very end, you could even develop any number of terrible drug addictions and just be as high as a kite because there's functionally no consequences.

Or, if you're the sort of person who feels the need to leave a legacy behind, or do what you can to make the world a better place before you leave it, $1 billion could fuel a LOT of charities, and you could even get a few hospitals to name wings after you. Help irrigate villages and set up education in impoverished nations, or help feel the homeless, or help cancer or other disease research.

Mead posted...

Suckers

Spend a few million to hunt down the people who made the deal, so they're dead and can't come get you in 15 years.

Definitely wasn't clear. Sounds more like you live an extra 15 years. So instead of perhaps dying at 80, you live another 15 and make it to 95. English, do you speak it?

What's the point if I can't continue to help my loved ones after passing so young?

I'm not "at birth". Actuarial tables say 87.8 years average for a woman my age. And I figure to beat those odds.
