Had to look this up to verify as I couldn't understand how there'd be so few tribals considering how merges go nowadays... but I guess that checked out, geez.

As we get further out from the season, I feel even more content with Chris win. Im glad that we got him instead of mediocre players like Rick and Gavin. It would be SO frustrating to have to listen to arguments about how those two were amazing winners, despite Rick getting voted out and only surviving via idols, and despite Gavin playing so poorly that there was no combination of two players he could beat by the time the final TEN rolled around. Seriously, so many of the Gavin was robbed! arguments imply that Chris didnt deserve to receive any votes due to the twist, so Gavin deserved to be gifted a second, zero-vote finalist that he could actually beat (also via the twist.)

I agree, but it's because Chris came back and did what production wanted Joe to do. So instead of getting their golden boy a win, it goes to the irrelevant third boot of the season. And since Chris pulled it off, it shows it was possible and Joe just wasn't good enough to do it.

Well, let's play the theoretical scenario game (since I haven't seen anyone do it here yet, or I missed it).

Let's say Lauren keeps her idol and uses it at F5, and assume everything still shakes out the same way (Rick wins immunity and gives his idol to Gavin w/ a F4 promise), the only person not immune so is eliminated is Julie.

If Chris wins F4 immunity then nothing really changes and he still wins. But if Lauren won F4 immunity then Chris doesn't get his nice little moment, she would probably take him and have Gavin and Rick battle it out.

If Rick wins that it's all over, but if Gavin won, we'd have a final 3 tribal of Lauren, fire-winner Gavin and no-immunity-or-fire-making Chris; surely Chris doesn't win under that scenario? But then who wins, Lauren or Gavin? Eh, probably Gavin but it'd be closer...

But still, Chris's "resume" without a F4 immunity win, sacrificing it for fire-making and winning the fire-making looks a lot weaker...

THEN AGAIN: why was the vote 3-1 for Rick and Chris at F6? why didn't they deploy the 2-2-2? If Lauren doesn't give her idol to Chris to use and they do that then Chris gets bounced and things get real spicy (Rick probably still wins in the end)

OK, I'm playing this out in my head.

Julie goes at F5 given yeah, Chris has his lame EoE idol at F5. Lauren has her idol too. Rick plays his for Gavin. Yikes.

At F4, Chris probably still wins immunity. Why not? He definitely battles Rick again and wins, which means we have Chris likely winning over Lauren, with Gavin in third. I gotta imagine several of the Gavin votes go to Lauren now. I'd bet it's closer than 9-4-0 at least, but I'd still say Chris wins if Lauren doesn't play her idol at F6.

Agree with all that, and I'm probably overthinking the whole "she takes Chris so he doesn't get a chance to prove himself". The credit he got was probably more the balls of giving up immunity than just making fire... being forced to make fire in a "Lauren F4 immunity" scenario just isn't worth a million bucks.

Or I'm really underestimating the whole "extinction island solidarity" factor, it's basically his entire "tribe" that's on the jury after all.

I need to go back and read some of the last few posts but I want to say a few things.

Now that we've had a gigantic jury consisting of almost the full cast, I fully expect it to happen on 40. Not that I expect it to be a regular thing - I suspect most seasons will continue to use the standard 8-10 jury members. But given what we know about 40, I expect there to be no pre-jury and it starts from the first boot.

Second, I've decided on what I'm going to rank for the off-season and it's something I've always thought about when it comes to Survivor but never considered categorizing and ranking. Just looking at the list I'm fairly sure I know what my top 3 will be but cant decide the order yet.

Some of those choices are meh but overall it's a decent cast. Very surprised to see Ethan on it tbh. And they got Boston Rob and Amber, wow. That has to kill at least one of their chances.

Yeah, they really had too much recency bias for the men. Though I guess it's easy to justify excluding a lot of the men from the earlier seasons.

Hatch: Old, fat and they probably didn't want to deal with the Sue incident again.
Brian: He's pretty much been blacklisted by the show since All-Stars.
Chris D.: Last I heard he's in terrible shape, and Probst doesn't like him for what he did to Julie.
Tom: I've heard his body's a mess due to his time as a firefighter. I don't think he was ever in consideration.
Earl: I heard he just had a kid born prematurely very recently. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a late decline and Adam/Ben/Nick replaced him.
Todd: Probably didn't want to risk a relapse. Probably the same reason Jenna isn't on the season.

Ugh so this was pretty much my nightmare cast for this season. I don't mind the recency bias with Ben, Wendell and Nick (though really one of the three could have been dropped), but that list of men is so "more of the same" with Rob, Tyson, Tony AND Jeremy that we've seen over and over, yet missing the guys I really wanted to see a second time, like Fabio, Todd, Earl, and my personal pick for best game ever played, Chris D. However, I'm happy to see Ethan back and healthy enough to play. I'd be very happy to see him win TBQH.

I'm a little happier with the list of women but there really weren't too many alternate options aside from Tina and I suppose they could have tried to track down V or Natalie W. The best thing to note here is that after all this time FINALLY someone originating from Survivor: Guatemala is coming back.

i saw the revealand i like it. i'm in. i care about survivor once more. there are two people in particular i am VERY excited for and honestly it will probably affect my take on the season depending on how far they go because there are some members i really don't care about. but the hype i have for these two people outweigh any negatives at this point

So it seems like they had a hard time filling the men? Unless they come out and say differently this is what had been said: Chris D failed his physical. Todd was in and backed out. Adam apparently replaced him. Idk what the deal is with Fabio. Couple of my favorites that didnt make it Earl just had a baby very premature I would also be afraid to go play. Not sure if Jeremy belongs in the Rob/Tyson/Tony grouping.

I too am very excited for Ethan. Give me one of Ben/Wendell/Nick replaced with one of the guys you mentioned or Hatch I would be very very happy.

That being said the women on this cast are awesome I very very happy with them. I had Tina over Amber BUT I never in my wildest dream thought they would have Rob and Amber so I didnt even think to have her on there.
