Okay so you guys all know I'm the biggest Survivor defender here. This wasn't a good season. I'm don't think this is a bottom 5 but it is close. Chris seems like an awfully nice guy and the way he talked about himself in his losses made me relate to him but it is hard to accept coming in when he came in and I even defended his position. So bottom 5 winner, bottom 5 season. No good.

That being said spoilers for season 40 have me so excited that I'm okay living with it.

Like I said I was being abrasive and a dick. This is what I should have said:

It wasn't a great season, it wasn't a great winner BUT it's still Survivor, the show we love. So the people that are really negative right now just try to enjoy as much as you can. Don't try to make others miserable. Most importantly, don't let this make you miserable, it is just a TV Show. Everything will be okay.

I apologize again for my attitude, I just want us to have a more positive attitude.

Was really rooting for Victoria, and as much as Chris was meh for me I have to say he played as good of a game as he could have coming back at that point and I give him props for it. Sucks that Devens is the only returnee we will get from this season. I don't think this season was as bad as some of you guys, but it definitely could have been a lot better. I might just be a filthy casual at this point but I think having Rob and Sandra will be fun next season.

You know this is one thing I did like about this season is that edge of extinction forced them to give us some real human scenes. Like, I don't think Chris being sad about not being perfect was the ideal scenario but it was certainly real and true emotion.

My all-time favorite season was only 3 or 4 years ago. And DvG was great up until the last couple episodes devolved into standard Survivor (as were HHH and Game Changers).

So yeah this fuckin season. Hard to deny it was bad. I put it just outside of my bottom 5:

38. South Pacific
37. Redemption Island
36. Worlds Apart
35. Caramoan
34. Ghost Island
33. Edge of Extinction

I can safely say that the Edge of Extinction twist itself was a success. Not just because it produced a pleasantly unexpected winner, but also because actually stories began to form there and it wasn't just some disposal ground between the game and jury like Redemption Island. That being said it ate up a ton of screen time and I never want to see it again. Leave it as a novelty in this season.

Furthermore I can say that I really genuinely enjoyed about a third of the cast. Aurora, Reem, Wendy, Julie, Chris, Ron and Lauren all provided me with entertainment and left me feeling in the positive toward them by the end and I'd be totally cool with any/all of then coming back someday.

But other than that this was just a combination of everything I hate about modern Survivor. An overabundance of twists throwing concepts like good strategy out the window. An extremely unbalanced edit that left me scratching my head at half the people who made the merge and diminishing what should have been an exciting ending. An overbearing douche bag hogging up the most screen time. Social media wars bringing out the worst in human beings.

Seriously what the hell happened.

1. Pearl Islands
2. Philippines
3. China
4. David vs. Goliath

I'm not kidding, that's the discrepancy season-to-season-to-season of the last three for me. It's clear that there's some good stuff left in the tank but they are insultingly putting out awful seasons with the occasional good one.

this was a weird season and i'm not sure i'm gonna know how i feel about the finale for a while. i'm lukewarm about just about everything and largely because of eoe i think we got to spend a lot of time with the stories of the returnees and the big personalities (rick, wardog, ron, gavin [just kidding!]) and not nearly enough time with the stories of the people who actually got far in the game.

Just finished watching.

Wow. WOW. I can't even digest what happened. Mad respect for Chris doing what we all wanted to see and giving up his necklace to go 1v1 with Devens, but in reality that was his only move. But damned if he didn't have the most perfect 3 days possible. Seriously flawless.

...But. That comes with a LOT of twist help. Dear god why are these idols still good at final five?! The fire making final four continues to prove it's the worst gameplay twist the game has seen. Immunity challenge is fine, but having TWO at the final four is ridiculous. To not give the players control over who goes home just ruins the whole spirit of the game. Brute strength is so much less interesting and deserving to me than a cunning social game. Mike and Ben are two of the worst winners in my mind.

Devens also massively messed up by keeping him. Why would you EVER keep the one guy who could beat you at F6, when you KNOW you've got his nuts in a vice with his half of his one advantage? Yes you felt bad, yes you had a bond, but dear god man you've been clawing back this long to just bend over to someone you felt bad about voting out?! I guess he had some kind of "Extinction" bond with him, and couldn't imagine himself being voted out immediately after re-entering, but still. You're here to win. You didn't feel that bad about voting him out the first time, do it again.

I still can't comprehend what I just saw. Need to sleep on it.

And I'm a little confused about next season. If Sandra and Rob are living on the island rather than living in a hotel and coming to the island every so often, wouldn't that mean there's a chance they turn down season 40 if it is all winners? Sandra already turned down back to back seasons back in All-Stars, and this has an even shorter turnaround time than that. I can't see production risking one of them getting some sort of complication and having to turn down all winners, and it's not really fair to either of them to have to come into all-winners with only a couple of weeks to recover. And if you can't get Sandra, you don't do all winners. It just seems really weird to me that they'd do something like that.
