Someone let me know if this entire 3 hour podcast for today is literally just them building the list to discuss later.

Because I'm not gonna listen to that. That's nothing.

It's a chronological recap of the games that mattered. It's a fine idea, I just think they got overzealous on cutting categories. If it had been this and 16 categories rather than 10, that would be miles better. The discussion has been really good so far, 20 minutes in.

Dan being against Celeste is a surprise.

So is today just moving the initial discussion of every category, where they determine the games that fit into the list of the category, to its own separate thing, or are they going into detail about every game?

I don't know if I want to spend three hours listening if I'm essentially going to be hearing the exact same things when we get to each individual category later in the week.

I don't care about discussing which games make the list to discuss later, doesn't matter what games they're talking about. They didn't have this part of the process podcasted before for a reason. Maybe this is for someone out there or an attempt to just be more open about the process, but personally I don't understand why they would bother doing this. If it's resulted in less categories as well...seems like an enormous mistake.

We'll see. As it stands I'm gonna skip out on today. Seems like all it serves is to pointlessly spoil how arguments are gonna go later on.

straight away to me it seemed like condensing the "quick talk about each game and why it belongs in the category" all into the front instead of repeating a lot of the same stuff every podcast but who's to say if that's how it's actually gonna play out

but idk, personally i'm not listening to this because i have a burning desire to know what awards they gave. i just want a bunch of content to occupy me over the holidays.

LtM, I think you should give Day One a listen. The discussion is good. I think Day One will be the recap, 2-4 will be three categories per day, then you get a whole day for Best Game.

This is as opposed to a bunch of games that just get mentioned every category with no chance to win. Now they all get talked about before the awards. You know the awards are like a made up thing right? You just wanna hear these guys talk about video games. They're doing that. More constructively, too.

For me, I think what works is the chronological nature of it. It makes it work as a recap of the year. If it was a random list I would just check out entirely.

I enjoy these awards podcast for the arguments and competition. I inherently have no interest in hearing things get added to a list, as opposed to them arguing for what gets cut.

This actually does seem pretty cool in that some games are going to be getting some positivity that they won't otherwise be getting in the award categories. In past years, it kind of sucked to hear a game I was very passionate about dismissed after 10 seconds in the only category it could compete in.

This is a blessing in disguise for me because I don't know if I'll have the time to sit through everything and this is 3 hours less of content that I won't feel like I'm missing out on if I don't watch because I'll still be getting all the awards stuff over the course of the rest of the week!

Dans take on Celeste was really disappointing though. If he didnt care for it thats fine, I dont think its perfect either, but dismissing as just a Meat Boy clone is pretty shitty.

Kinda bummed they axed Best Character because that was always a fun category that held a lot of weirdly personal discussion in addition to like 'protagonist X from critical darling.' oh well.

omg this podcast is so boring. I think they just talked about that pirate boat coop game for 15 minutes again. this is like the boring first hour of a bombcast, but even worse because it 3 hours and I've already heard these discussions word-for-word months ago.

The only part you like is them going "this doesn't hang" to 30 games and not mentioning literally anything else about them, then settling on about 10-15 games that get swapped in and out for each catergory?
