I have a bunch of old RollerCoaster Tycoon save files from like 1999-2003 so I decided to download the Steam version tonight cause I wanted to take a look at them. Then I realized they aren't really as exciting as I remember and I also don't have the patience to relearn how to actually play that game right now, but maybe I'll find something cool there later on. There are almost 100 saves in there somehow so I didn't look at that much.

The weirdest thing was seeing a park that appears to be made by my dad because I don't remember ever seeing him play a video game in my life

On the subject, I can't remember if we've talked about it before, but if we have let's do it again anyway. Do your parents play video games?

Obviously my dad doesn't, my mom does sometimes, but not as much as when I was younger. I know I can't expect much but it's so hard to play games with her. I'll try to explain something but she'll just do the exact opposite, or she'll discover what I was explaining five minutes later by accident and say "Well you didn't tell me you could do that"

My mom used to play Solitaire and weird like boggle style flash games all the time. I know that doesn't really count. She also had a weird affinity for Sonic the Hedgehog and various puzzle games, specifically Tetris and Puzzle Fighter. I think she used to game with her brothers and my dad before she had kids too because once she was excited to see that I was playing Mega Man 2. I haven't seen her play a game ass game in a long time.

My dad games a lot and always has. He was a games critic for a long time and his work was featured on IGN and PC Gamer amongst other reputable periodicals. He plays PC almost exclusively and from my ages like 10 to 16 or something literally all he did all day was play WoW. No job or anything. Now he is in sales and games in his down time but still has a lot of weird connections. He knows Geoff Keighley (guy who runs The Game Awards) for example. At one point he was trying to get me to send him an essay about games so he could give it to Stephen Totilo from Kotaku (I don't think he actually knows him but knows a guy who knows a guy or whatever). I don't know what came of that crazy idea. He's been to E3 and stuff too.

My mom played some games every now and then as I was growing up. She beat A Link to the Past by herself but she mostly stuck to Puzzle games like Columns or Tetris, or something like Ms. Pac-Man. Now she's on Words With Friends all the time.

I've only ever seen my dad play Hot Shots Golf once and nothing else.

This reminds me of one of those stories people write where it goes something like, "My dad passed away but he always said he loved roller coasters, so one last time I played Roller Coaster Tycoon in his memory, and when I opened it up I saw a roller coaster he created that spelled "I love You Son".

I never would've guessed in a million years that your dad was a big industry dude.

I doubt my mom has ever beaten a game by herself but there was a time I remember her being at least competent at games. That could just be that I sucked at games as a kid though so I had low standards for somebody being good

That's a stretch. He was freelance and it's not like he has a StarCraft or Half Life review online somewhere. He was too lazy to become that guy. We did get tons of free stuff though. He wrote the strategy guide for Evolution: The World of Sacred Device so we had a Japanese Dreamcast and an American one for free. We also got a free OG Xbox and just a bunch of games, like for a while every Xbox game of note we would get.

Now my dad's lasting impact on online gaming culture is this site Quarter to Three which he ran with his friend once upon a time. The friend still runs it. It's a tiny forum I think basically but I don't look at it. I creeped on my dad's posts there once and he was just defending Hillary in the primary a lot on the off topic forum.

Okay maybe not a "big" one but I think you get the idea. Obviously he has (had?) some degree of connections and pull in the industry. I bet I know how you guys got involved in gaming! I don't really even know how I ended up in it, my parents must've just been curious about that Nintendo thing since I always remember having an NES growing up. I know you said he is almost exclusively PC, but did you ever grow up with (or maybe still have) one of those pre-NES consoles you almost never see?

We had an Atari 2600 or Intellivision or something but I barely remember it. That probably is where my parents' curiosity actually started, not the NES.

My dad does. He actually built--er, had someone build him a PC specifically to do so. However, he only plays games based around World War 1 and 2.

Rivers is going to get a chance to win the game. Ravens opted to not kick a field goal earlier in the game, and Tucker missed a makeable 55-yarder. I dont feel good about this

Ravens with a huge win

If the Steelers lose tomorrow against the Saints, Ravens will win the division if they beat the Browns next week. And if the Chargers stay in the 5th spot, itll be a rematch in Baltimore in the first round. Rivers will want revenge and be even angrier and more whiny than he was tonight. But thats definitely better than having to face Brady in Foxborough.

I agree, I'm fine with most celebrations but the ones where more than a couple people celebrate takes a bit of time to arrange and pull off, this includes the group photo.

At the big family party we played a trivia game where we all had to submit a question about ourselves. The aunt setting it up said make it general so guessing is possible. Here are some examples:

Q: What is @CaptainHammer's current favorite TV show?
A: Game of Thrones

I thought this was fine because it followed the rules. Then not long after this one:

Q: What is the grossest thing (cousin in military) ever ate?
A: boiled coyote road kill for survival training

Q: What compliment did (grandfather) receive at age 13 that he still hasn't forgotten?
A: He was the best babysitter our four kids ever had, from his aunt or neighbor or who knows

There were a lot like this. Ones that only were guessed by that person's spouse or sibling. The first one there is fun, the second one was annoying. Then out of nowhere:

Q: Why was (cousin)'s ex boyfriend in the news?
A: He was arrested for first degree murder after trapping someone in a car and executing them.
