Came back from work, checked the results.

Auron doing really good as expected.
Vincent barely beating Magus and I think he was losing for a while? Now that I didn't expected.
Sub-Zero of course he would won.
Claire winning? This is the most suprising result for me. Yeah I know Persona series isn't that famous but Claire winning over Joker? RE 2 remake boost!

It would be nice if Geno could get a non Square non Nintendo opponent one of these days. Not that he wouldn't still be fodder, but for someone who's been in so many contests we don't have a great read on him. He didn't look THAT bad vis a vis Akuma in '07, but looking at '13 that's a pretty dire performance with only Magikarp and maybe Last Place Factor to blame anything on.

Claire shouldnt be considered an upset. Also sad to see Magus so far behind now. Him winning wouldve been the biggest surprise of the contest

I'm on my phone, but the current match doesn't appear at the top like it used to (I'm almost certain I didn't close it because I could just make it reappear by refreshing it); instead I have to scroll all the way down below the poll where it invites you to visit the "contest hub".

i googled "joker persona 5 render" and grabbed the two most recognizable joker images from the first 5 results and dropped them into photoshop

i didn't do clean renders of these cuz obviously they aren't getting used but claire has way better pictures to choose from

allen just let us do the pics next time, this "120x120 transparent background format" is super easy, we could have knocked out multiple nice match pics for all characters in like two days

I think people who know Persona are likely to recognize Joker because he has his freaking name written below. I don't think the users are dumb enough to miss that.

Match pic matters for people who don't know the characters, I think. In that sense Claire loses all the pic advantage she could possibly have, but Joker isnt much better with that regular boy face.

Sub-Zero should be winning by more. He's always been a high midcarder, I'm surprised he isn't getting the doubling here against some more JRPG turbofodder

I was surprised that the entire crew+guest went with Ren, but 35% of the gurus had Claire so it wasn't a huge upset. Even yesterday only 26% took Simon Belmont.

Shulk is in Smash and his game did okay in 2015.

I'd say this is pretty good.

xenoblade has been around for long enough that people have actually played it by now

the re-release, sequels and smash 4/smash 5 hype and general lack of interest in MK and fighting games in general right now are enough to explain subby's underperformance here

So after seeing all the other results this round, is anyone worried about a Ryu > Sephiroth upset? FF7 has looked like absolute ass, and every ancillary Smash character has vastly impressed. Ryu was already a really strong character, could Smash have boosted him at all? I definitely think that match will be at most 52-48 either way.

Wow, October 3rd. Good on ExTha. It didn't even occur to me until after Pac-Man, Rosalina and Shulk impressing.

I'm really really curious what this does for Cloud's strength. FF7 has declined, but him being in Smash may have boosted him considerably (though whether it makes as big a difference as it did for Snake remains to be seen).
