Waluigi got stronger from not being in Smash than most characters would get from actually being in the game. Right now I would bite on both of those.

Once Smash comes out and everyone forgets about the craze, he's back to being low-tier Nintendo fodder.

Really wanted Hat Kid to win, though it's understandable that more people are familiar with Squall.

I'm also not surprised that Rosalina is doing well, but I still expect Geralt to take it.

Holy crap at today.

As someone who took Sans to win the eight-pack, this looks to be my worst decision if the bracket -- whoops! I was counting on 2015's contest introducing GameFAQs to Undertale and the heartfelt joy of its characters affecting more people in ways like what we saw at its first GDQ marathon. The rally never crossed my mind as likely -- this was just a fail.

Was Pac-Man announced for SSB4 yet during 2013's contest? Only thing I got besides Sans sucking.

Okay, so that probably helped...but even ignoring that SSB4 boost, we're looking at Cuphead beating Sans as bad as Dante beats Pac-Man.

It's still hard for me to consider Cuphead winning against Sans.

Pre-smash Bayonetta probably gets pretty close to beating Riku. Riku looked bad against Charizard in 2013 and I think people opinion on Charizard has come down since then making Riku look worse.

Smash definitely has helped Bayonetta, but her series making the jump to Nintendo consoles is another major factor to consider. Bayonetta 1 and 2 were both ported to Wii U and Switch, and Bayonetta 3 will be a future Switch game.

Bayonetta's performance here looks like someone who is a mid to high midcarder. The first Bayonetta game was released in 2009 in Japan, but the US release date was in early 2010. Going by the US release date, Bayonetta is currently the strongest character introduced in the 2010s.

First reaction to the matches-
Geralt sucks so much. Yes, some people assumed he would lose. Yes, Rosalina is Nintendo and from the damn series. And yes, Geralt is a western character
But even then, I expected him to be more impressive

Simon over Ryu was expected. Who the fuck even cares about Ninja Gaiden? And Ryu H in particular? people underestimate Smash Boost. My chickening out from Shulk>Sub Zero is looking worse and worse every day

Bayonetta-Riku is a boring match and boring result

Now for Sans - Pac Man..
This is the single most surprising result of thr contest to me so far
Yes, I was wrong many times, but they were all close matches/gamble/debateable before the contest
Everyone picked Pac Man to win, I did not
Why? because it's fucking Pac Man and who cares about him?
Now Undertale might not be very popular on GaneFAQs but I assumed that after it's victory people would want to try it
I know I did
I know I picked Sans

And hell, even if I feared Sans would lose, I thought it would be something like 55-45 or 60-40

You know with all that in mind, people would vote against him for that very reason. Nevermind the stigma against the game or the fanbase already - or both, because of the latter - and everything it stands for.

As if people actually like Pac-Man (and I say this as advocate of Pac-Man, people were vehemently against the idea of him getting in, and not just on Gamefaqs). They're only voting AGAINST Sans, not for his opponent.

Ryu Hayabusa has cut 138 votes the past two hours. Based on those last two hours, Ryu Hayabusa takes the lead at 1:40pm ET and goes on to win by 442 votes.

Simon's doing about 2% better in the US than he is overall, so I expect that Ryu will stop cutting in a few hours.
