Especially companies who also sell to the public. Why do they let Amazon shit on them so Amazon can get sales instead of them?

Large companies have been doing that for decades, how else should they do it?

I just don't get it. Amazon makes up such a small percentage of our sales, but such a comparatively large percentage of our (my) effort because they're such dicks.

They're really demanding. They cancelled something really late, said they wouldn't pay for it if we included it in the order and would charge us a fee for each one we sent. So if we sent it after they'd ordered it and changed their mind too late, they'd take it for free and charge us for it. No other company does this to us and we supply a lot of companies.

The way we prepare their small parcel orders is also ridiculous and backwards and takes me a huge amount of time to do. It'll be around 10ish orders on the busy days, and it'll take me a couple hours. We ship out at least 2000 orders every day.

As someone who has paid for Prime this year, I would rather buy from a different company and pay a higher price than Amazon just so I don't have to deal with the shitty ass Amazon drivers that throw my packages at my apartment door and drive off without making sure anyone is home (nor to make sure it is the right apartment).

Yeah Amazon was a customer for the label company I worked for.

They were very demanding and made us go against our own SOP. Such demands included: keeping 10x the inventory on hand then we usually would Incase they ever decided they wanted to order it, packaging the label rolls in a completely different (I will admit smarter) way, canceling orders at the last minute (sometimes while they were en route costing the company 1000s to turn the truck around), ordering full truck loads outside of the ordering time window, and lastly someone (ha me, fuck you chuck from amazon) had to be on call 24/7 Incase they needed an "emergency shipment". These shipments could be anything from a single roll sent through ups/fedex/usps or multiple truck loads. I remember having to come in on thanksgiving (obviously a scheduled day off) at 11am (seriously fuck your mother chuck) just to load 6 pallets into the company truck and blow up the phones of the 3 truck drivers that the company employed to have them drive a 12 hour shift. None of them answered so the company had to pay $4000 for an independent driver to make the delivery. They lost about $2300 on that order just to keep amazon happy.

Everyone in shipping absolutely hated picking amazon orders because the smallest mistake (I'm not talking serious mistakes like wrong product, little shit like not putting their stupid "non inventory" tags on all 4 sides of the pallets or if they fell off en route) would have chuck blowing up the CFOs phone demanding action be taken on the picker.

They weren't even one of our biggest customers. I'd say they were 5th-7th in total sales. The biggest customer (Tyson) made zero demands and followed our SOP to the letter.

Keep in mind, there's really only ever been ONE major tech-related company that has ever claimed they wanted to be "good" rather than "evil", and even they've been sleazy motherfuckers for years. Amazon never claimed they weren't going to be just as predatory as a company like Wal-Mart or whathaveyou.

While we might want to live in a world where major companies actually sincerely give a shit about their customers or impact on other companies, we don't actually live in that world, and honestly never really have.

As opposed to the UPS and USPS drivers who throw packages at your door and drive off without making sure anyone is home?

I've never had any delivery driver give a single solitary shit whether or not my packages actually made it to the right house, were delivered to an actual person, or not left somewhere that they might be stolen or rained on. Whether shipping through a service like the Post Office/UPS/Fed-Ex or even another company that uses their own shipping or a different third-party service, I think every single thing I've ever ordered from anywhere has basically just been dumped on my front lawn or my porch. Most of them don't even bother attempting to ring the bell to get anyone's attention.

I actually used to ship everything I sent to someone with "Signature Required" specifically for that reason - because otherwise, I had zero faith they'd ever actually get it. And even then, they didn't always bother getting signatures (but at least those had tracking data, so I could OCD-ly monitor a package's progress every couple hours or so, and then call the person and tell them to go check and see if they had a delivery if they hadn't already gotten it).

Delivery services in general are pretty much universally ass.

Amazon keeps opening warehouses in different places. If you live within a certain distance of one of their depots, they may deliver to you themselves rather than shipping through another service.

I've actually gotten four different deliveries in a single day on occasion when ordering from Amazon. The post office drops larger packages off via truck earlier in the morning, then the UPS truck drops something off later, then Amazon's own delivery truck stops, and finally my actual mailman shoves stuff in my mailbox because they send smaller packages out with them.

I have yet to see a seller ship via Fed-Ex as opposed to UPS or USPS, but I suppose it's possible.

Newegg ships though Fed-Ex, it is like the one thing I hate about them.

Fed-Ex is what happens then a bunch of UPS employees take cocane that was laced with LSD, and mistake your packages with rugby balls.

Oh, then yea, haven't seen that either.

Pretty much all of them go through UPS, which typically gets handed off to USPS unless the package is too big for them to fit in the truck with all the other mail they have.

I pondered this often when I was working that job. Best I could come up with is because they were a consistent buyer and the company profited off of them on most deals. I feel like the company could have profited more if they didn't bother with the ridiculous demands and instead focused more time and effort into aquiring new customers, but that was far above my pay grade so I just kept my mouth shut and did what I was asked.

I have never had a problem with my deliveries. I use to get home after my shift(at UPS, but not the one that delivers to my house, which I know because I got a package for my neighbor that had to go to a different warehouse) and my driver would come there within the hour. And would wait for me. I ended up telling him to just drop it off in the screen door. He would still knock or ring the doorbell. So, I could finish taking a shower or nap or whatever. It actually worked out pretty well. I heard that people are worse these days about stealing packages back home, though. I don't know much about the current drivers except they come later in the evening, but people are way better about not stealing packages here.

The reason they have probably been rushing more, as of late, is probably because more people order online these days. There are people who order stuff online everyday. Especially with the deals on Amazon and Amazon Prime. And the free 2 day shipping from them, as well. It puts a lot of extra work on the driver. They probably barely have time to make all the deliveries. And stopping would cost them time. To answer whether they could send more drivers, it depends. They may need more trucks. They may not have enough, while having extras when they need them. Then They would still need enough drivers. They would also need to redo routes, which would mean needing to redo the whole computer system to change where packages go to get loading. And also expanding the warehouse to have room for it all. Basically, it would take a lot of time and money.

While Fed-Ex does do any kind of delivery, they usually do more business type stuff, AFAIK.

I don't thing anything like that has happened even once in the 40 years I've been alive.

Maybe you live in a more rural area, where mail carriers are inherently more friendly and responsible? It's pretty much the only scenario I can think of. I know mailmen by me have pretty much never given much of a fuck.

I don't have that issue with every other company. Our UPS driver (who has been deliverying in this area for 8 years) goes up to every door, knocks, waits, if no one answers, he moves on. He takes all packages that were not delivered to the leasing office. USPS only delivers packages to the leasing office unless it can fit in the mail box. FedEx does the same as UPS.

AMZL (and Ontrac when they used them) is the only service that delivers however they feel like delivering, and that is how 95% of my packages are shipped these days. Maybe 5% through USPS if it is them having to replace a damaged or defective item. In fact, ever since they started using AMZL, Amazon has had to regularly replace 6 out of 10 items for me.

In fact, here is a video I did of a Simpsons DVD package I got:

Maybe it's the area. I know that the house I lived in during third grade, we had the same mailman for so many years. He knew all the families. And if anyone was at the mailbox when he came, he'd just give all the mail to you. Everybody in the neighbor hood knew him. And he was just a really nice person. His name was Jim. Weirdly enough, he looked a little like Jim Henson... I think... It was a long time ago...
