I actually wanted to do this a long, long time ago, but at that point in my life I was moving and starting a new job. That effort faltered out of the gate, but at this point, I wonder if there are enough Board 8ers who would like reading one or two comics a week and discussing them.

I could give a long spiel about why comics are good (and so can you!), but I do want to stress that if you're worried about time commitments or being able to pick up reading material, it won't be an effort either way. I will provide digital copies of any story arc we're reading upon request, and I only plan on two stories a week. That breaks down to no more than 10 comics in a week at worst, and in reality you'll rip through them in the time it takes you to watch a single episode of Game of Thrones. It's like reading 2 chapters of a real book in a week. You can probably knock out an issue in the time it takes you to brush your teeth.

Anyways, I don't want to oversell the ease-of-access aspect, but I do think this would be a lot of fun for readers of comics both new and old. I'll be happy to provide stories for characters or franchises upon request, and you might just discover something you really love.

I don't plan to start this right away, but I would like to get an idea if there would be enough people with interest in this concept to get it going. I think at least 5 regulars would make this worth running, but naturally as many people as are interested are welcome!

I was planning on back issues primarily so that we could read completed story arcs. It's also easier to distribute digital chunks of older comics.

i'm interested

i tried to really get into comics a few years ago and bought a ton, but i found the monthly expense of trying to keep up with more than a couple titles was immense, and the result was that i have a giant pile of single issue comics that are impossible to organize or revisit easily. pretty disappointed with the logistical experience, even though i did enjoy the comics themselves. Trades are a bit more manageable in this regard and look nice on a bookshelf, but I haven't tried too hard to get into buying those.

i've pirated some digital comics to enjoy as well and have had good experiences with those, though I tend to bite off more than I can chew like "read every Deadpool comic from the beginning" or "everything related to Annihilation in cosmic Marvel"

For those of you who have expressed an interest, I would like you to fill out a little bit of a questionnaire just so I can get an idea of what I'm working with.

1) Have you read comics before? If so, what is your history with the medium?

2) Are there characters or creators you are interested in learning more about?

3) Do you have interested in comics outside of the traditional DC and Marvel universes? Would you be interested in comics that are sci-fi, fantasy, or even more literary works grounded in the real world?

4) Are you adverse to language, graphic violence, drug use or nudity?

1. Yes, I went through a kick where I read a bunch of Batman comics off a list. Also I've read a few of the bigger graphic novels (V For Vendetta, Watchmen, etc.). Finally I've read a few one offs like Buffy, Serenity, and the recent Darth Vader comics.

2. Nothing in particular, but I would be interested in learning more about some bigger events that I've heard of but don't know too much about.

3. Open to anything.

4. No.

1) Have you read comics before? If so, what is your history with the medium?

Yes, but I've only become invested in the past year, so theres a lot of stories I still want to read

2) Are there characters or creators you are interested in learning more about?

Not really anyone specific, but I do like origin stories, before reading they're best stories

3) Do you have interested in comics outside of the traditional DC and Marvel universes? Would you be interested in comics that are sci-fi, fantasy, or even more literary works grounded in the real world?

Mostly prefer superhero stuff. I do currently read The Walking Dead though as well as The Wrong Earth, it's still superhero but it's not Marvel or DC. So I'm willing to branch out, but I am more interested in reading the history of the big two first.

4) Are you adverse to language, graphic violence, drug use or nudity?

Not really, unless it's used in excess

1) Have you read comics before? If so, what is your history with the medium?

I'm currently pulling about a dozen comics, mostly DC. I'm also going through Dixon's Nightwing run and have read most of the classic Batman stories. My experience with Marvel is essentially non-existent, though.

2) Are there characters or creators you are interested in learning more about?

I'd be interested in looking at the wider world of classic DC, as well as anything Marvel, because I'm less likely to read older Marvel stuff on my own in the future.

3) Do you have interested in comics outside of the traditional DC and Marvel universes? Would you be interested in comics that are sci-fi, fantasy, or even more literary works grounded in the real world?

I have no preference, and would be down for anything. The Walking Dead is the only big non DC/Marvel comic that I've read.

4) Are you adverse to language, graphic violence, drug use or nudity?

Nope.

1) Yeah. Read a bunch in the 90s. Mostly Spiderman. Read all of Maximum Carnage and the Clone Saga. Also some X-Men and Batman but rarely full arcs with those. And dumb things like Super Mario comics (these are awesome I'll fight you) and Sonic comics (kinda dumb I won't fight you)

2) As a dirty casual I'd be most interested in the well known arcs from the bigger franchises from Marvel and DC that hold up. I'd be interested in good stuff involving Iron Man, Thor and Deadpool. Also Batman I guess since while I've read a decent amount of it it's just been scattered around. Not much on solid arcs. Really though I'm not gonna be picky and will go with most things.

3) I don't care too much but I would generally be more interested in the superhero style as opposed to something like The Walking Dead. But it doesn't strictly speaking have to be Marvel or DC.

4) No.

2. Not especially.

3. Would be super interested in stuff outside the traditional superhero universes, especially SF/fantasy.

4. No, but if there's nudity I'd like a heads up so I don't read them at work.

1) Have you read comics before? If so, what is your history with the medium?

Yes, I actually hated comics most of my life until about 10 years ago where my brother started liking a few superheroes and I picked up a few comics including Batman: Shadow of the Bat and I actually liked them! From there, read a ton of Batman, Spider-Man, Avengers, X-Men, Punisher, the like, then I got introduced to Vertigo and truly realized how great comics are. Sometimes I fall behind on the current runs but I always catch up eventually. Prefer trades to buying monthly overall.

2) Are there characters or creators you are interested in learning more about?

I honestly have never read that much Wonder Woman, and there's a lot of Fantastic Four I wouldn't mind diving more into.

3) Do you have interested in comics outside of the traditional DC and Marvel universes? Would you be interested in comics that are sci-fi, fantasy, or even more literary works grounded in the real world?

Definitely, some of my favorite comics to delve into are a lot of 90s Vertigo deep cuts that are very grounded and gritty. Love horror comics naturally too

4) Are you adverse to language, graphic violence, drug use or nudity?

Not at all

1) Have you read comics before? If so, what is your history with the medium?

Yes, Wickle has read comics given to him by great user scarletspeed7 before. Wickle swears he's not pandering.

2) Are there characters or creators you are interested in learning more about?

This answer changes occasionally, I did get some results of asking for specific characters before, I think a couple I was thinking of were Sinestro (though I have comics I need to read with him), maybe a few other Green Lantern continuities. Also Doctor Strange and maybe Doctor Fate. For now that's who I'm thinking on wanting to read some things of.

3) Do you have interest in comics outside of the traditional DC and Marvel universes? Would you be interested in comics that are sci-fi, fantasy, or even more literary works grounded in the real world?

Mostly only things I end up reading outside of this, is by very loosely defined. I haven't read actual comics outside of the two. I don't think I'd mind going outside of these companies if it looks good to go in another direction.

4) Are you adverse to language, graphic violence, drug use or nudity?

I can be, but I can read through the stuff anyway. You just might hear me whine slightly.

1) I touched on this earlier, but yeah I've read some stuff. Favourites included Thor's God Butcher arc, The Superior Spider-Man, Runaways, Sandman, Fables, and Y The Last Man.

2) I've heard about a lot of classic creators I'd love to learn more about, but none of them in particular. I'd be happy with pretty much anything.

3) I'm definitely a Marvel but I'm interested in reading anything. I've read dozens of manga and I see non super hero comic books as pretty similar to that.

4) I'm not really adverse to any of these things, but I'm not too fond of gratuitous use of them for the sake of having them. If they enhance the story being told though, then by all means. I'm not a fan of lots of gore or killing characters off for no particular reason. For reference, the crazy guy in the diner in Sandman with the gem kinda pushed me to my limit on this. I think his name was John Dee.

Graphic Violence mostly, good that you brought up asking, as I probably won't complain about drug usage/nudity outside of movie rankings. Language might bother me, but it's not something you have to be mindful about making sure I don't read. Don't like, limit anyone who wants to be exposed to Preacher or similar series just because I'm around, ahaha~

I wouldn't be opposed to a deep dive on some of the most signature creative teams like Giffen/DeMatteis, Morrison, etc.

3) Do you have interested in comics outside of the traditional DC and Marvel universes? Would you be interested in comics that are sci-fi, fantasy, or even more literary works grounded in the real world?
I'm not gonna read like the graphic novel version of Moby Dick but yeah I like non Marvel/DC stuff too especially some of the traditional stuff (though I dont expect this club to read Archie/Jughead double digest or Savage Dragon)

I'd be interested. I keep falling in and out of reading comics. Haven't kept up with anything since Metal ended.

1) Have you read comics before? If so, what is your history with the medium?

Yeah, I got super into DC around the Morrison Batman and Johns GL era, right before New 52. I've read a lot of the history since then but fell behind on most current stuff after Rebirth. Also read various amounts of some recent Image series but not current on anything.

2) Are there characters or creators you are interested in learning more about?

Too many to name really. I've almost entirely neglected Marvel so hitting on those classics would be cool

3) Do you have interested in comics outside of the traditional DC and Marvel universes? Would you be interested in comics that are sci-fi, fantasy, or even more literary works grounded in the real world?

Absolutely, I think I'd give most things a shot.

4) Are you adverse to language, graphic violence, drug use or nudity?

Nope
