Who will be the new fighter in Smash?

They're saying Geno, Lara, or Noctis. If they get added in probably a huge boost in contest strength right? Or if the annoucement is made sometime during the contest season, they're bounded to get propped up?

Geno would be such a weird choice because SMRPG is so old and there's no reason to include him at this point (although we got friggin' Duck Hunt in Smash 4 so anything's possible I guess)

I'll take Squall as a Cloud echo who can spam Limit Breaks at will though

LIGHTNING YESSSSSSS. Also makes sense due to the political climate right now(female inclusion/empowerment is everywhere due to Trump, /#metoo, allegation scandals)

I don't know how much credit the "leaker" deserves, but it's a plausible guess anyway.

We know Sakurai took characters from fan polls, so Geno is an obvious choice. Lara is probably more famous to the layman. I doubt Noctis, he's not really any kind of icon or requested character. Crono with an outside chance.

I'd guess Geno.

Well yeah, but that game's set in the modern day, Noctis makes sense for that. I admit this isn't certain, but I feel like Sakurai goes for iconic third party characters rather than just popular ones, and Noctis is neither. Plus I kind of doubt Sakurai would want to have the second fighting game with Noctis in it.

It's pretty clear that Sakurai is trying to please as many people as possible with this installment and Geno has been heavily requested for such a long time. Plus he got that Mii costume in Smash 4. (Along with Inkling, Chrom, Isabelle and K. Rool hmmmm)

Like, Chrono Trigger is still an extremely beloved game and it's deeply tied to Nintendo - if you wanted to make people absolutely lose their shit over a character getting in then Crono's a really good choice, that would be buzzworthy.

Only mainline FF character I could see would be Warrior of Light. They're not putting in Noctis, or Zidane, or Tidus. Sora is a maybe. Bravely Default character could be a stretch.

Why not? Relevancy is a myth - people still love Chrono Trigger and the fan response would be stronger to Crono than to most of the characters listed so far

Sora would be reasonably buzzworthy but I think he's too tied to Disney properties to be realistic. Are you gonna license Donald and Goofy to be in his final smash? I doubt it

Geno's more requested I think mainly due to his ties to an actual Nintendo property and he's probably the most likely Square-related character to get in but Crono makes a ton of sense

While I'd love for Sephiroth to get in, I think he'd be obnoxious to balance because of his sword and abilities.

And two FFVII characters would probably be hella overkill.

Playing Smash with One Winged Angel in the background though.... SO GOOD.
