Brazil has been suffering under democratic rule for a long time, and when someone finallu had the nuts to stand up to these people, he was literally stabbed. After that happened, he doubled down and his poll numbers went up. Unless he gets killed, hes getting elected and has the peoples backing to turn Brazil around. Finally.

So now I think I know how to put my distaste for the, uh, "Christine Ford" situation into words: it seemed like opposing the accusation was a bigger priority than defending the accused. That's sick. Especially the way Trump came out (a little suspicious he has said virtually nothing about the metoo movement considering how much he likes Tweeting about god-knows-what) slamming women who come forward with their stories.

I get the concern over the allegations being "well-timed" in many cases, but the fact that there's so much outrage over the possibility of an accused man's career going up in flames rather than at the possibility he is guilty is just gross. Borderline misogynistic perhaps.

McConnell said to have sent through a liberal judge there would have been unheard of and a party controlling the Senate opposing the President has not approved a confirmation of a supreme Court judge since 1888. Which if true is impressive.

Also supposedly it was democrats during the Bush era who started the obstruction of confirming supreme Court nomination. According to McConnell.

I live in a district that the current sitting Republican in his 6 years of being in the house has only brought up 3 bills to vote on during that time, all of which just changed names of monuments in the district. He also was arrested for insider trading with evidence that has him texting relatives to sell all the stock of the company he was the CEO of a day before the stock fell to nothing. He is still on the ballot for reelection and is currently the massive favorite to win all because of the R next to his name.

NY 27th district btw. Chris Collins is a dirt bag.

There is literally a Republican appointee currently on the bench who was confirmed by a Democratic controlled Senate in Clarence Thomas. Going back to 1888 it has happened 9 times. (Out of 13 cases. The 4 Failures: 2 Nixon, Bork (Reagan), and Garland. All but Garland got a vote.)

No nomination has been made in such a scenario since 1888. The 13 cases I mentioned all didn't have the nomination originated in a presidential election year. So that scenario is untested IMO.

Now, confirmation votes have been made in that scenario. Kennedy was confirmed in 1988 but the nomination itself originated Nov 30, 1987.

Really though the hidden part of all this is that the President is one party and the Senate is the other is just a very rare occurrence historically. In that "since 1888" timespan I mentioned there 13 nominations made in that scenario with 9 confirmed and 4 not. Also in that timespan, 66 have been made while the same party controlled both. 3 of which were repeats (nomination lapsed/withdrawn and then confirmed when renominated)

Edit: Zooming out. Since 1901, split control of President/Senate has occurred in 36 years (out of the obvious 118 years.) And nearly a quarter of that has been isolated 2 year periods.
