It's just funny to me that Republicans have to use every underhanded tactic in the book (gerrymandering, literally not bringing a SC nominee up for a vote, voter disenfranchisement, etc.) plus Dems general incompetence to hang onto power and even then it's by the skin of their teeth. They can't outright win the popular vote, they have to lose by 3 million votes. More people vote Democrat than Republican every year but they put district lines in a way to maximize seats.

It all feels like borrowed time.

Literally just tried to derailing a nominee based on fucking unsubstantiated accusations. Get fucking real.

Underhanded tactics... Lmfao.

If these charges had been leveled at Robert Downey Jr someone else would be playing Iron Man in Avengers 4*

*Note I don't watch these films and have no idea if hes even still alive.

I am glad you are finally understanding how stupid the jump to judge is.

I'm saying it would have made sense.

Not too many people wanna STAND BY THEY MAN when they're semi-credibly accused of sexual assault.

It feels like a miscalculation even now to push this through in light of metoo , Cosby, etc.

We've already seen how poorly "stand by your man" worked for Roy Moore. Kavanaugh only survived because it was a Senate vote, not a public one because he literally is the most unpopular SC pick of all time. Even independents became "man fuck this guy."

Republicans can keep hoping "disenfranchised white males" can keep their base afloat but it's not working very well.

Guiness is my go to all the time beer, but my favorites are all bourbon barrel aged ones as they are by far the tastiest.

Of all the ones you listed, Coors light is the only one that's drinkable you monster.

Bud Lite Platinum is a man's drink.

Where was the semi-crediby accusation?

This is just crazy. We have a court of law for a reason. Unless it is obvious someone is guilty, they are innocent until proven guilty. This situation didn't even come close to something which was respectable to support off of an accusation.

Brett Kavanaugh has taken the oaths of office to become the 114th Supreme Court justice, just a couple of hours after the Senate voted 50-48 to confirm him.

The quick swearing in enables Kavanaugh to begin work immediately in advance of arguments at the court Tuesday in two cases involving prison sentences for repeat offenders.

The 53-year-old justices wife, children and parents were in attendance.

https://www.denverpost.com/2018/10/06/brett-kavanaugh-sworn-in-supreme-court-justice/

QUESTION PRESENTED:
Is a state robbery offense that includes "as an element" the common law requirement of
overcoming "victim resistance" categorically a "violent felony" under the only remaining
definition of that term in the Armed Career Criminal Act, 18 U.S.C. 924(e)(2)(B)(i)(an offense
that "has as an element the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force against the
person of another"), if the offense has been specifically interpreted by state appellate courts to
require only slight force to overcome resistance?

QUESTION PRESENTED:
Whether burglary of a nonpermanent or mobile structure that is adapted or used for
overnight accommodation can qualify as "burglary" under the Armed Career Criminal Act of
1984, 18 U.S.C. 924(e)(2)(B)(ii)

Don't too much about these two cases but it sounds like it should be unanimous yes in both.

So, I like to talk about Democrats being incompetent a lot, but today, let's reflect on the brilliance of the Republican Party. They hold a 51/49 margin in the Senate, the barest of margins, and their 51 represent less than half of the country's population, yet they got everything they wanted today. That's efficiency. That's delivering on promises. #ThisIsWhyWeWon.

So you should count votes when they literally did not even have a candidate to vote for as for why the gap was so large. It is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

If anything, the take away Republicans outvoted Democrats outside of California (with NY) is impressive.

If Republicans wanted a candidate to vote for in the general election they should have showed up to the primary. California's system isn't mysterious - whoever the top two vote-getters in the primary are show up on the ballot. It's not the Democrats' fault Republicans couldn't get their shit together enough to get someone to the general.

I believe it would have cut the total in half at the very least from a 12 million lead to a 6 million lead. Maybe even further.

The point is, like I said from the onset, looking at the Senate gap is all about what states voted. It wouldn't be impressive if the Republicans carried it and it was all deep red States.

The Senate by extension of only doing 33% at a time is always bound to have pointless gaps based on states up for grabs. House makes more sense. But it likely isn't too far off from the presidential numbers I would guess.

I think Republicans are better at fielding local politicians than democrats are. The national Republican platform is off putting to a majority of voters and I think it is going to be very hard for a Republican politician to win the popular vote any time in the near future. It doesn't matter because they have the electoral college to protect them, but 50% do not like the Republican platform.

HOWEVER

Republicans are smart enough to know this. In Alabama, they field those crazy "GAY PEOPLE WANT TO MAKE YOUR KIDS WATCH RU PAUL" candidates. In Northern Illinois, almost all Republicans are socially liberal/moderate and fiscally moderate/conservative. They're competitive here and people will vote for that even though they hate Trump and basically any national Republican of note. To win the primary, you essentially have to court the Republican base which just isn't anywhere near the middle. Republicans are very good at finding moderate republicans though and running them where they should be run.

Democrats don't always do the same thing. It is hard to find an anti abortion democrat these days, and usually you may get a "well we don't support abortion but we don't want the government to limit it" which, as reasonable as that may sound to me, doesn't play well in Alabama. Jones almost lost to an actual literal pedophile because he was fairly liberal socially and moderate fiscally, which isn't what you want in Alabama. You'd want those two things switched.

I wold need to look more into this, obviously, but my gut instinct is Republicans are better at playing politics at a local level and don't care about it nationally because of the way the Senate is set up/the electoral college.

This isn't true.

But, I am surprised that more people don't vote straight tickets. I mean, my first glance at that is, that most who voted for Trump voted their house representative and that is mostly that.

But what surprises me is that while Republican votes for house mirror the presidential total, the Democrat votes are 4 million less than hillary's and that isn't even counting the millions of 3rd part presidential votes.

Is there simply just that many Democratic presidential voters that just don't vote for lower positions?

Most Democrats aren't as partisan as you were lead to believe. I haven't voted straight ticket once in terms of local offices. I will this year, but this is the first time I've ever done that.

There are some, sure, but there are Republicans that do that too. There were probably just more that didn't like Trump but liked a local Republican for democrats/democratic leaning independents than the other way around.

And fine "Roy Moore pursued woman between the ages of 16-17 when he was way too old and while he probably isn't a pedophile by the exact definition of the word you know what I'm talking about and he was gross regardless" instead of pedophile then.

Interesting, but that doesn't surprise me as much. Senate seats are still state wide so that doesn't surprise me that they vote mostly (or all!) the same way they vote for presidential elections . Individual districts are more interesting and more what I was talking about. I would think the house would still have a decent number of split district tickets but I'd have to look into that to be sure.
