So I'm on Twitter and I check out the baseball hashtags, and what do I find but a load of white liberal non-baseball fans cheering over the Cleveland Indians being eliminated because of the "racist" Chief Wahoo logo they wore. There was bitching about the Braves, too.

I am so fucking glad Brett Kavanaugh won and made these people miserable. Every single one of them deserved it.

Racism doesn't always imply hatred. Ignorance can be racism. Ignorance can lead to hatred. Is it the worst/most racist thing ever? No. But it doesn't really feel comfortable to be doing this sort of thing. The culture of fans engaging in this behavior might encourage more worse behavior. As I said in MLB topic. I went to a Mets/Braves game in ATL in April. Beyond doing the tomahawk chop (which btw, they do about 30 times a game, no exaggeration... only after runs early on, after every batter by mid-game, after every PITCH by the end of the game- while the Braves are batting anyway), I saw people doing war whoops, and one person even was yelling "SCALP EM!!!!". Like come on, this is not acceptable behavior. The tomahawk culture encourages this.

Additionally, I'm also trying to point out MLB's hypocrisy in making a full-on statement about Chief Wahoo and banning it, but letting other similar things stand, like the chop.

Yeah, I spoke to a few Native Americans in Canada, and had some coworkers who were half-native while working in the US (one of which was my boss, actually).

Like anything it depends on the person. Some of them are upset about the "indians" team logo. Some of them don't care.

I think the best thing to do in situations like this is to make sure any pushes to change logos are actually coming from Native voices (cause like, I'm not Native, and I really don't care what the logo of a sports team is).

This debate happened to a local sports team of mine, actually. (San Diego Aztecs; after some debate they ended up keeping the Aztec name, and the Aztec warrior, so pretty minor changes overall).

But yeah, as long as the people who were pushing for changing the Indians mascot are Native, I don't really see the problem.

Their BIGGEST concerns are public health/healthcare, wildfires and resource scarcity, and their overall crumbling infrastructures.

They need a lot of help its true.

Actually, a group in my university partnered with NASCAR to figure out how to get more women into watching the sport. (The group was a group that normally was trying to work on how to get more women in the computer science department, so the going theory was that a lot of the same strategies would apply; we could learn from NASCAR and they could learn from us).

As someone who was 100% indifferent toward NASCAR for their entire life, a fraternity reception at the NASCAR Hall of Fame was very interesting and I'd recommend it to anyone if they're passing through Charlotte.
