And I was gonna offer trades but thought there were more characters still around x_x. And kept missing the trades offered too. But she was a dead (wo)man walking for like 30 rounds so I can focus on characters with more chances this year now

Yeah, it's pretty much the "Squall makes a vague mention of how his wound disappeared and it's never revisited" plus all of the really weird tone shifts that occur over the next disc and a half.

Like how there are magical talking lion monsters who know all about that guy Squall has been having dreams about.

Or how Rinoa is clearly in love with Seiger for the entire first disc and then only has eyes for Squall from disc 2 on.

Or how suddenly almost everyone Squall has ever met has a long-lasting personal connection to him via the orphanage despite the fact that he sees these people all the fucking time and knows they've come from different walks of life. And they learn about this because Irvine hasn't forgotten yet. Even though he's with them all through the Deling City mission without saying a word about it.

You realize English words spelt in Katakana are just approximations of foreign words using Japanese phonetics and Ekusodasu sounds less like Exodus than Exusudesu does right.

That sounds nothing like the ending to exodus even if you're taking in the limitations of Japanese phonetics into account.

It only takes a dummy like me spelling it that way in the script cause I heard the English word and sounded it out in Katakana rather than looking up the typical spelling for a miscommunication to occur. Game programmers aren't exactly linguists so I could see it happening.

Nah I'd definitely say sounds much closer. I just assumed it was discouraged to use cause you claimed "it's always death" which could confuse people if comes up in a lot of katakana words as death but if you're going purely sounds that's the best approximation imo.

Basu is closer but you can't treat the word as an island like that imo. I'm just saying if I say Ekusodesu aloud, taking in the factors of hiw the previous syllables influence the later ones ans such, it sounds closer to the word Exodus than Ekusodasu does by far. Not really more complicated than that.

The "a" sound in Japanese is always used to approximate the "uh" sound in English. This is why Bartz's original name (Battsu) was romanized early on as "Butz".

Literally every pronunciation guide I can find online says that it does rhyme with bus (eksds rhyming with bs, as opposed to THis), so maybe you've just been pronouncing it wrong?

The meaning of his name is "The one who exceeds death"

Ex is often used as an abbreviation of extra in this way

And since I've never seen an Ex-Large shirt but I have seen X-Large and XL I say X-Death is fine!
