I just beat spider-man ps4 a few days ago (loved it). I've only ever played like ten minutes of an Arkham game (don't remember which one). I kinda wanna play another super hero game, so I wanna know which of the batman arkham games is the best (I think are four of them?)

Aslyum > City > Origins > Knight

They got progressively worse with each new game in my opinion.

Asylum was the best. It was a solid "Metroidvania" that was the most tightly focused gameplay and story of the series.

City was good, but not as good as Asylum. City went open-world, and that made it not as tightly focused as Asylum. Open-world games tend to be less focused than more linear games. The sidequests ranged from okay to downright shit. Finding all the political prisoners was extremely tedious.

Origins was decent, but it was pretty much a copy and paste of City with little improvements. It was made by a different developer too, which is probably why.

Knight was mediocre. There was too much focus on the Batmobile, and it wasn't good. The story sucked, and the ending especially pissed me off because it was so out of character for Batman.

Asylum>Knight>City

I don't think any of them are great games, but Asylum is the best one since it's not open world. Knight and City are interchangeable depending on your tastes. They're very similar, but Knight has you grind out for the "true" ending and the Batmobile complaints people always make about it are valid. I think the story is more interesting and the graphics are pretty amazing though. Photo mode was a ton of fun for me.

City and Asylum are pretty close to tied. Asylum tends to get ignored because it isn't "open world" like City, but it is still pretty open and allows a lot of freedom to do what you want when you want.

Origins is better then some would have you believe (at least now that they fixed the insane amount of bugs it had on launch), but I would still call it the weakest.

Knight is...divisive is the best way to put it. Some people love it, some people hate it. I find it kind of annoying because of the Batmobile sections (which take up almost the majority of the game). The rest of the game is great though.

Like they force you to do a ton of side content in order to really beat the game. It seems to be a popular trend in AAA open world games these days.

City>Origins>Asylum>Knight

Everyone hates on Origins but I really enjoyed that game. Young Batman facing his first real test fighting many villains at once. The snow and stuff was a good aesthetic too and the Bane fights are some of the coolest in the series imo.

I think it was supposed to be really buggy when it first came out. I played it later and never encountered any problems.

I imagine some people also had a problem with the plot pretending to be something different only to get hijacked by Joker and flavour of the month Bane.

When I think of Batman I don't think "Tank Combat with an army of vehicles", that almost sounds something from the newer DC movies. Also when I have to constantly switch back and forth from Batman to his car that's really dumb, especially when I had to do it to raise a 6 ft. tall platform to leave an area and that takes several seconds too long. Playing now it seems most of my time is spent dicking around in the Bat-mobile when I'd rather be actually playing as Batman.

Knight > Origins >>>> City > Asylum

They just kept adding more quality of life improvements, like movement and flying improvements, double takedowns.

People who actually think Asylum is the best make me laugh. Those people played each game until they got sick of it, then they played the next one expecting their mind to be blown the same way. I played them all for the first time one after the other, and I usually never touch Asylum or City.

Anyone that has me on steam sees me play Knight or Origins every other night for 6 hours.

If TC actually thinks Asylum or City is the best, I'll eat my shoe.

City or Knight depending on just how into the batmobile you would be. Batmobile is fun but a tad overused in the game. Origins was good and I can't place why I rank it lower than city as I liked the story more but something about the gameplay felt off and I can't put my finger on it.

I felt the games where better open world as it allowed you to feel more like Batman skulking about roof tops and what not and gliding around and dropping down on unassuming enemies more easily than asylum did.

City has the most fun challenge mode though idk why but I could hardly get into the others except Knight but it still didn't match city's other than more characters to play as.

There's literally nothing that says they have to be 2D. Metroidvania is a style of gameplay and that's it. Unlocking new gadgets, items, powers, and then backtracking to use those things in places you have already been is what makes a Metroidvania.

Also hidden items I think at least makes it stronger case when making the claim a game is a metroidvania. I think anyways as both Metroid and castlevania had hidden items
