It was a solid "Metroidvania" What the fuck. Asylum most definitely had the Metroidvania formula with getting new gadgets and backtracking to use those new gadgets in areas you passed previously. I'm definitely not the first person to ever mention this. Metroidvanias are all 2d. There's literally nothing that says they have to be 2D. Metroidvania is a style of gameplay and that's it. Unlocking new gadgets, items, powers, and then backtracking to use those things in places you have already been is what makes a Metroidvania. Also hidden items I think at least makes it stronger case when making the claim a game is a metroidvania. I think anyways as both Metroid and castlevania had hidden items --- Cid- "looks like that overgrown lobster just got served!"
