Then the 360 said 'hold my beer' and failed twice as much. Too bad it didn't have the long term sales.

PS2 was pretty reliable, my launch model still worked last time I used it. Solved the DRE twice just by cleaning the laser lens. Nobody ever thinks to clean their consoles.

Hadn't heard about any major unreliability issues with the ps2, or at least no problem large enough for that. Oo

My ps3 YLOD'd, though. I think it was my first system to ever truly breakdown. The ps3 slim (I *think* I got the slim or whatever) I bought to replace it never worked all that great.

The only time I've seen a ps2 go broke was when it was used as a DVD player. I've kept my lense clean and it works perfect.

The ps3 is finicky and sometimes doesn't want to load a game for me. For instance, my disc of The Last of Us will not install but a dozen other games will.

I don't have a ps4 yet because its still too new. The new Dragon Quest does call out to my nostalgia though.

Might be the drive having trouble reading dual layer discs. I went through something like that where most games ran fine but a particular cutscene in DMC would always freeze.

It's true, it just wasn't regarded as big of a problem because it happened a little more down the system's life than the 360. It actually was worse for the consumers because MS actually took responsibility and gave the people extended warranties while Sony didn't give a fuck.

Only launch PS2's had disk read errors, if you waited about 6 months or so then it was resolved. I have had my PS2 for 16 years (and got extremely heavy usage for 6 of those) and it only just started have drive issues.

'Didn't happen' meaning the XB set the worldwide record for failure rate. Ylod was a thing for some people. Not 60%.

Don't try to sugarcoat it. M$ didn't give a damn about it until word started to spread about a 2/3 failure rate, at which point they were forced to offer a multi year warranty to save face. And even then the repair lines were long. Coupled with the thought that a refurb system would be untrustworthy, people ran out to buy a supposedly improved platform and dumped the refurb at GS.

Nin and Sony had way lower failure rates and stuck to the industry standard of charging for repairs. Not that I agree with the fees so if I ever run into trouble I clean it or fix at home. I'm proud to say I've only had a single console fail on me - an original PS1. Still have a launch PS2, 60gb PS3. Just gotta clean the dust out once in a while. Meanwhile I've never owned an XB.

So no video at all? Try different settings? New cable? Other TV? You have to rule out what isn't the problem first.

Yeah try holding the power button for 7 seconds (until you hear two beeps), this will boot it up in safe mode. From there you should have a few options to tinker with. No matter what you do, DO NOT choose to "Initialize" - this will wipe your PS4 and restore it to factory settings. If all else fails, you could try this, but you'll lose everything you don't have backed up to another drive and/or cloud storage.

You may want to try to manually change your screen resolution. This may help with the issue you're having.

Did you try what I said - Booting it in safe mode and changing the resolution from the safe mode menu? I've had that same issue ("No signal" message) and this worked for me.

Everyone should own a copy of Contra Shattered Soldier for testing their PS2. Game is notoriously hard to read. If your PS2 can run it, it should be able to run anything.

no one is sugarcoating anything.

the ps3 ylodded just as much as the 360's has a rrod.

the difference being that it happened later down the line. people did care that sony made you pay the price of a new slim ps3 to fix it. coupled with the fact that it was mostly the PS2 BC enabled PS3's, and people were mighty pissed because it was the only way to keep having a ps3 with bc.

the funny thing was that it didn't happen that often in the EU, so sony used the EU failure rates in such a way to try and make everyone think that was the failure rate for all regions in total.

it backfired on them, btw

and no one cares that you've never owned an xbox before, i really don't understand why you keep trying to brag about that for some reason

No it didn't and don't act like it was. While I don't have numbers in front of me the PS3 failure was maybe half the 360, and Nin's rate is always in the single digits.

When it happened doesn't matter, we're looking at the percentage. I will agree and say most reports were for the 60gb model but that had a lot of extras in it.

M$ denied the RROD for years. Obviously all companies try to blame the consumer first but this was above and beyond. And it wasn't just that, there were problems with wifi or video chips I thought and disc scratching.

The important part is I don't let my consoles fail. A little maintenance is all it takes. Had I accidentally gotten a 360 then yeah it would be doomed from the start. Seriously though when you look at the games available I'm not sure why anyone would choose XB. Whatever though.
