Crazy how posters praising law and order are defending a criminal.

the punishment didn't fit the crime at all

They're not the government, people don't have to uphold proportionate punishment, just as companies aren't bound by free speech.

but what he did was a crime, so he gets punished for it

Assault is a crime, but disproportionate punishment isn't.

Murder is, though.

You don't get charged for murder because it's a disproportionate penalty, you get charged for murder because it's an unacceptable act.

And you and the other guy are advocating for murder being allowed in response to someone's wallet being stolen >_>

Jesus Christ guys if he punched the guy to death he literally had flesh being ripped from his face from being beaten, shattered facial bones and so much blood that it was probably enough to drown him being face up. This guy probably literally changed the shape of this mans skull. Had he survived he would have needed facial reconstruction surgery.

No one likes a thief but at a certain point you got to notice "oh wow I could kill this guy or cause permanent brain damage".

Its not citizens jobs to deal out punishment for crime.

Probably should have stopped after the guy passed out.
Because you know, enough is enough.

Stealing someones stock wouldn't be the same as stealing someones personal possessions. If you had said as a kid you stole someones wallet that would have been a better comparison.

If you steal someones personal possessions you deserve all you get. Would I personally go as far as to kill someone over something so trivial? Not deliberately simply because it's not worth the jail time and it's just a comic book to me. This doesn't mean I'm going to condone those that want to teach thieves a "lesson" nor do I think victims should be punished no matter what the law states. I thought I made my stance clear on this subject but apparently I didn't.

By that logic, why do we even have laws? If someone does something wrong the then the victim gets to decide whatever punishment they want, even if its far worse than what was done to them? That cant seriously sound like a good system to you, that kinda logic was decidedly abandoned in the dark ages.

Laws are supposedly there to bring order to how a country operates. Without them there will be chaos sure. This doesn't mean I must agree with every law that gets put in place or exists now.

As I said people who commit crimes don't get to decide their punishment.

Mead posted...

You're right. The law tends to protect criminals these days and punish the victims. This again doesn't mean I agree with it. If you commit a crime you deserve everything you get and that's a fair thought process in my book as the criminal is the one in the wrong to begin with. Had said criminal not decided to steal a wallet in this case then he would be still alive. Being as he decided to turn to crime I've no sympathy and the victim certainly shouldn't be punished as you know, they are the victim.

We have laws to enforce punishment when the victim is incapable of seeking it out themself. Even the weak deserve to get retribution.

While I dont advocate beating someone to death for stealing a wallet... robbing at gunpoint is on a whole different level. Those who rob people at gunpoint should be killed. When left alive, they're left to keep victimizing others

Oh well then rape can only be physically forced as threats apparently don't mean anything, even when done by a criminal with a gun in your face.

Did you just ignore his threat since he's only threatening and that doesn't imply intent to carry it out?

Prisons are a thing.

Sure but often times, probably the overwhelming majority of times, they don't get caught. And who will they victimize next? A guy with his wife and 5 year old? That's pretty traumatizing for a child. Best case scenario, an armed robber gets shot and killed. They're dangerous regardless of whether they originally intend to carry out a threat

If he was in CA he would get a slap on the wrist and sent on his way. They are cool with murder, in particular if you are an illegal that's been deported a bunch of times and kill someone in broad daylight. But he is in LA so might get 2nd degree or a manslaughter charge.

CA requires you to have a CA drivers license to drive in their state.

Probably if you're a resident, like most states.

I can have an Arizona or New Jersey license and drive in CA or be a visitor from Canada/Mexico/any other country and drive in CA.
The officer was enforcing the law claiming that only people with California licenses are allowed to drive in California.
