Directly, but since they inherit classes they can just level up to get other skills as well.

From Mercenary (Swordmaster), actually. Fighter doesn't do a huge amount for him, it just gets turned into pegasus knight for any daughters he has, giving them flight and galeforce and all that

I've never personally had any interest in Eugenics Emblem (like, on my sole run of Awakening I didn't even pick up any of the kids) but out of curiosity, is there any comparably "perfect" set up figured out for Fates? I figure the exclusive units plus Revelations' extra possibilities means there are at least two lists if so.

So he gets Astra from Mercenary

Fighter is a class that doesn't exist for women, but is replaced by Pegasus Knight

which in turn is useful for galeforce because it can become Dark Flier

so hes useful Because he has Fighter, but the actual class isn't important because of it's abilities, but it becomes for the daughter

Inheriting skills isn't too important because the kids can learn it from the CLASSES they inherit, but it would probably help save time, eh?

Having astra at the time of the kid joining would help but not entirely necessary

I"M GETTING DEJA VU!!

My Nephenee had Vantage in PoR!!

She also had an ability that gave her upped Crit when her life was half

so basically she would interrupt enemy attacks by just murdering them

god I love Nephenee you guys <3

Astra is a Swordmaster skill. Gaius can access it by reclassing into Myrmidon and promoting into Swordmaster. (Or by being high enough level to reclass into Swordmaster, that works too.) Gaius' child will always inherit Myrmidon access from him, so they will always be able to obtain Astra themselves. But if you've already decided to get Astra for Gaius, then you might as well do it before recruiting his kid, and save yourself some time and effort.

So what you do is go do Apoth Runs.

It has the intensity for it without falling in the uncanny valley for main game.

Fates can be good as kind of a break from the norm to avoid burnout, it has a ton of mechanics that are a bit odd compared to the rest of the series (weapons have infinite durability but come with various side effects to balance out the stronger ones, skills are much more obviously useful than in Awakening, the pair up system has been redesigned to be way more strategic). If you're into the whole Waifu Emblem thing it's also likely to appeal on that front too. Writing is somewhere between bad and worse, but gameplay wise it's got some pretty cool ideas and Conquest is great from a challenge stand point.

I'd recommend both Echoes and Radiant Dawn over Fates, particularly if you want something different from Awakening. Fates isn't exactly the same by any means but it's a very similar style with some new mechanics.

Fates probably isn't bad if you're a newer FE player and if you can handle the god awful story. It's just Awakening that's been...Nintendo-fied I guess.

As an older FE player I think it's one of the worst games I've ever played but to each their own really.

There's two types:

The First are Einherjar- you get them from Bonus Teams. They're Robins with sometimes unique skills. One has a unique Class. They cannot support at all.

The other are the "Spotpass Six"- These are proper, canon, characters in the game. You get them from the Bonus Maps. All of them except Priam, the Radiant Hero, are kinda sorta heavy spoilers. Priam though, just sorta left fields things. Not much to him- he's to Ike what Chrom and Lucina are to Marth and that's really it-- he doesn't have Aether as a proper skill because fuck no is Male Morgan touching that skill, but he does have Aether otherwise [hence Sol and Luna]. But uh, his map is rough to say the least. These characters have supports only with Robin. Though, one of them has Shiny Tile Conversations with Chrom and Lissa, and another one of them, another has shiny tile conersations with Say'ri.

On the one hand, having as many missions as i want is great because it allows me to not worry about trying to use characters that join under leveled. But on the other hand, the fire emblems that have a limited number of missions are more rewarding for figuring out - you can't just overlevel your way through.

Such exaggerations are unnecessary though. One of my friends is the most hardcore FE fan I've ever known and he still likes Awakening and Fates, just less than the classics.

It's certainly not universal, and then there's cases like me who hate Fates, but love Awakening.
I love the older games and Awakening, but utterly despise Fates.

Also Gaiden > Shadows of Valentia. Thank you Act 4, you suck.

Knights and Generals look like dumb Football Players in Awakening.
Cavaliers look odd.

Generic Great Knights are "Reality is Unrealistic" since they're actually based off a real heavy cavalry armor set from the 1450s.

Tip: The boss is in attack range from your spawn.Though, you'll need the Siege tome, Mire, to exploit that.

Mire can be bought from Bonus Team -> Thracia 776 -> Raydrik.

For reference if you're confused on what a map is, it's just like the random encounters - you can enter the map, see or skip the cutscene, look at what it's like and then just exit immediately without any ill effect.

Oh, in case you didn't know this, the difficulty of the Child Maps is based on when their assigned parent joined.

Lucina's isn't a Paralogue.
Morgan has the easiest,
Then Owain,
Then Kjelle
So on, so forth following when the Mother joined.

...The hardest is Gerome's. Unless you plan on using Gerome [he's not that good at all unless he got Berserker as a class option] he's not worth getting since his map is endgame level and horribly designed.

Huh I never put that together I just thought the balance wasn't remotely thought out and some of them ended up disproportionately difficult as a result. I guess that makes sense on paper-- in practice it doesn't cause you aren't likely to unlock them in that order.
