Just about to beat Lttp, and I wanted to see what everyone considered the best of the 2d ones

LttP > LBW > ...I guess Minish Cap > OoS. OoA and LA are a toss-up. OoA is probably the better game by a wide margin but it has a lot of fucking minigames blocking content and I got stuck on the Goron rhythm game.

MC I dislike how much filler they have between dungeons. Vaati is one of my favorite Zelda villains, though, and I liked at least some of the game's art style.

Oh, and if "2d" just refers to topdown titles, I'd probably put Spirit Tracks over MC and then PHg after MC

LttP has everything a good Zelda needs but if they could remake Link's Awakening to remove the tediousness of having to switch items so much for basic things like lifting items and using boots then I'd easily rank it above.

LttP > LA > OoS > OoA > ALBW > MC

All the 2D Zelda games after LttP either aren't that good, or they're highly derivative of LttP. I gotta give it to LttP in that case since it came first, and not to mention it's the only full console experience.

I don't know if it would make LA better, but yeah, the control is annoying. It almost feels like unfairly criticizing it for the system it was on, but all the switching really is a significant detriment to the experience (ditto Oracles obviously).

I didn't like Oracle of Ages, couldn't get past the Goron Dance.
Both Ages and Seasons had that ring collecting.
In Minish Cap it was kind of a nuisance to track down the kin stones, plus the figurines.

I liked all of them. I probably like MC the least. But it was a long time before I even played it. I voted LBW just because I liked it a lot. And then beat it twice in a row. Which I usually don't do. And 100% both times. Played on Hero mode or whatever...

ALttP > ALBW > LA > Zelda 1 > AoL

Haven't played the other 2D games. But none other than the oracle games even seemed interesting to me. In any case, ALttP is my favorite 2D Zelda, my favorite Zelda overall, and my favorite game of all time. So that one.

Geesh, too tough to vote. LttP is a long standing favorite and I was pleasantly surprised with LBW. Played through LA a number of times when I had my GB on long car trips. Played through the Oracle games and Minish once each a long time ago.

Why do people love ALBW so much? It's basically a dumbed-down reboot of LttP. Everyone complains about 3D Zelda games being rehashes, but for 2D Zelda it's okay? And I really don't understand the praise for the item system either. I get that the whole "Pick up item in dungeon, use it to solve the puzzles in dungeon and beat boss" formula was stale, but this was even worse. The dungeons are all meant to be entered with only one or two items, and in turn they had to limit it to those items for solving puzzles, which made them very obvious.

Idk. I had lots of fun with it. More than some other games. And I like the wall puzzles and stuff. I forgot about the power so much. Haha.

It wasn't a reboot at all. Did you even play the game? It was clearly a direct sequel to LttP.

Yes I played the game. It plays like a reboot to me. I knew it was going to be LttP style but I didn't expect it to borrow that much from the map. I mean there are differences in each area, but the big core areas are all the same. The dungeons are very different but they are pretty lackluster anyway because of the item scheme

Well, yeah. As they said, it was a direct sequel. So, it's the same land. Slight changes, but mostly the same. makes sense for a sequel that takes place in the area to have the area look pretty much the same...

Yeah. Because he went to a different place in those. And lots of sequels take place in a different setting. But sometimes, sequels take place in the same settings. Or you can visit a familiar place in games. What I say still works. Every sequel doesn't take place in the same settings. Some do.

Not really dumbed down but sure, it borrows heavily from LttP... although that's part of the appeal.

It is totally dumbed down. Limited dungeon puzzles due to being locked into certain items, segmented dark world that doesn't demand as much thinking to transfer between worlds, infinite ammo, etc.
