Quite glad I picked one of these up for Smash 4. You can use it to play PC games with your Gamecube controller, too! Very nice happy surprise there, especially for emulation.

Got one. I remember them being somewhat hard to find fairly quickly last time, so I'll just go ahead and grab it now while I'm still thinking about it. I'm fine with the joy cons, but my original two are all I have, so this $20 purchase immediately septuples the number of controllers I can use for Smash. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

It does. Works pretty well on MK8, for example. You can get an off-brand one like Mayflash in the meantime before the Nintendo one is available again.

To answer both questions in one:

GCN controller is the fight stick of Smash Bros. There's not really any other context GCN or wired controllers are particularly desired, but for Smash Bros it's a big deal.

Adding on to what GMUN said, the competitive scene always prefers wired controllers so there's no input lag.

So with that in mind, Nintendo probably doesn't think it's worthwhile to bring back the Wavebird.

Yeah that's partly what I meant with answering both with one, as the FGC always loves wired for fight sticks.

Not just input lag but also simple wireless interference, as per many E3 live demonstration failures lmao

I very much enjoy having a controller I don't have to charge.

And again, with the other point, not having to buy more Switch controllers is super nice.

Saves me on batteries, especially since it's my Netflix machine

Well unlike Wii U you can use the GCN controllers for other games, but mainly for Smash.
