Yes, but not so much like the way we see. I'm skeptical that it will help ease the economic and social problems that state is facing. I still prefer New California.

I'd rather have one state with liberal reps, not two. (The third would likely be conservative, which isn't great either, but it's better than liberal.)

I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of people's votes just "don't matter".

Variations on the idea have been posted on PotD a few times. One would have split it into like 5 or 6 parts, iirc. Was looking forward to the state of Jefferson.

In all seriousness though... I do support breaking it up as I feel it's too large for proper representation; but I'd much rather the californians decide how they want it broken; be it a north-south divide or something else. Basically anything else to get the big cities from basically deciding the biggest voting bloc by a large margin.

This is kind of what republicans mean when they talk about how unfair California is. If you want to go by sheer voting power somewhere like Wyoming has its votes worth much more than a Californians. However California has the largest amount of votes by a sizable chunk yet it's almost entirely controlled by a few select cities which are almost entirely under the liberal thumb.

It can make "sense" It just doesn't work since nobody's vote matters since only the delegate votes matter.

California doesn't have that many electoral votes when you consider that they have almost 80 times the population of Wyoming but only 18 times as many electoral votes. The electoral college already tends to favor Republicans since lower population states have a relatively large proportion of representation in the electoral college, and rural states like that are Republican strongholds. As has been said, this is just a way to even further advantage them.

There are a couple exceptions of course, like Texas being a high-population red state, and small East Coast blue states like Delaware. Overall though it's an advantage for the GOP

Electoral votes already are determined by the population and can change when the census is done.
