This is for a special birthday request. I've never made an ice cream cake. or vegan ice cream. But I have made a lot of normal ice cream and a few cakes. So this should be fun

I want to emulate the DQ style of chocolate and vanilla with the fudgy layer, possibly add in a brownie layer--because who doesn't love brownies with ice cream?

The results will be posted here for science

Make an ice cream cake and write on it: "You people are monsters for eating meat! We're such better people than you!"

That's about as vegan as it's going to get.

To you and the many people being rude: they're not vegan. They can't eat dairy and don't like eggy dessert. They explicitly asked for vegan ice cream because it is what they can eat.

And it's rude as fuck, if not dangerous, to feed people things they have explicitly said they can not eat. The vegan hate in here is ridiculous.

Thanks for the link suggestions, minimalist baker is a great site. I'm going to ask what flavors are preferred. I was going to sell my ice cream maker this week but I'm going to wait until I make this cake first.

What I'm thinking of

This chocolate recipe: https://minimalistbaker.com/vegan-chocolate-ice-cream/

With this other recipe: http://40aprons.com/vegan-salted-caramel-ice-cream/

The use of cashews in the second recipe should give it a different kind of consistency and creaminess to offer contrast between layers

It's going to be tricky to make 2 batches of ice cream in a day. Can't premake this ahead of time. I'll need to find a suitable cake pan as well

I understand. We have to go completely peanut and tree nut free (and fish) because of allergies. It is crazy what may contain peanuts. I read all labels because of this. I bought a bag of frozen peas and the label said, "May contain peanuts." When you a 4 year old have an allergic reaction and you realize how serious it is and you have to use the eppipen and rush to the hospital.

Did they say Vegan or dairy free, because it isn't the same. I think there are some egg substitutes out there and recipes for eggless cakes. I don't get the dislike for eggy desserts because most cakes don't taste eggy, it just makes them cake-like which a substitute should do too.

Check the label of ALL ingredients, even the ones you would think has no dairy. We don't buy "shared lines" or "same facility" products.

Good luck.

While they're not vegan, I am. If someone has issues with animal products then vegan recipes are safe. The egginess is for the ice cream, as many ice cream recipes use eggs. My Ben & Jerry's recipe book uses it for every base. And yeah it gives the ice cream a really distinct feel and flavor but if you don't like eggs it's off-putting.

So thankfully at this point I have the label reading down pat! And sadly many things that are lactose free still have dairy so I'm likely just going to make every part of this from scratch. The ice cream for sure. Unsure about the cake, I lack the leaveners.

Duncan Hines has a lot of boxed cake mixes that are vegan too. If I have to go that route.

Thanks for the advice. It's really tricky dealing with food allergies and concerns. I'm always disappointed to see people suggesting tricking others by lying about food. While it wouldn't kill this person it would give them digestion issues. And trust issues.

? Cream doesn't just come from animals. Dairy does. It's not dairy alternative. It's non-dairy.

Cake doesn't need animal products.

people say stuff like that all the time or joke about putting meat in my food. or joke about killing people because they're vegan. It's tiresome and i am grateful none of these people have attempted to pursue comedy.

Why not? Seems pretty easy to do some kinda layering with those tbh. Plus they look good.

Or make like, vegan ice cream sandwiches or something.

Oh they *are* good. The PB & Cookie is my favorite Ben & Jerry's flavor, dairy or not.

But this is a special birthday cake so I am going to make the ice cream, cake, sauce, etc. from scratch.

(I have an ice cream maker so using raw ingredients is a bit cheaper and will be nicer overall)

The problem is that it's not an alternative to dairy. It's its own thing. Saying dairy alternative normalizes consuming animal milk. Oh and many dairy alternatives contain milk ingredients themselves!

It's non-dairy. Ideally I'd just say plant milk but people get crazy

The person in question is not vegan. Did you read that? Meat eaters can still eat plants. Vegans can not eat animal products. Fooling people by adding vegetables to things is way different from spiking a vegan's food with animal products. Spiking vegan food is more like adding bacon to kosher or halal food and thinking it's funny. It isn't. It's disrespectful in a very deep way.

No. No it's not. Vegan does not allow for any animal products.

Yogurt (the dairy kind) is also milk. Non dairy creamer is usually full of milk products and a bunch of other awful shit. No one should be using it.

Rennet products aren't even vegetarian as it is harvested from slaughtered newborn calves. Vegan is the strictest form of vegetarian (no eggs, dairy, honey, byproducts). So no animal milk based products at all.

I have coconut yogurt in the fridge.

It's irrelevant either way because they very specifically asked for vegan food which means no dairy or eggs in it. And you come in here to suggest spiking food.

I'm not an asshole that would spike someone's food whether they don't eat something because of an allergy or personal choice. Like damn. That's some of the nastiest shit you can do to a person.

If someone is vegan and you give them dairy they won't be able to digest it anyway. You become lactose intolerant when you stop drinking animal milk. Because you're supposed to stop with milk when you're a baby, and shouldn't ever drink cow's milk

Dude. I don't do the second one. Which is all that a vegan could do to a meat eater. Meat eaters also eat vegetables.

I tell people straight up my food is vegan then t some turn into dicks and suggest spiking it or killing vegans.
