What are we considering a remaster as opposed to a full-scale remake?

Anyway, if there was a game that I thought was worth playing through several times but that had, say, somewhat fuzzy graphics and some rather common bugs, I might buy the version of it that had those problems fixed even if there were no other upgrades. In fact (for example), I kind of wish that the DS version of Final Fantasy IV had been just that relative to the Game Boy Advance version; the 3D graphics of the former didn't feel as "iconic" to me.

OK, but what sort of graphical differences are you looking for? I could understand buying a remake of a game (e.g. buying the new upcoming FF7 game even though you played the original) for this reason. But something like Dark Souls remastered offers such minor upgrades that I don't see it as a good purchase.

pretty much this, and not wanting to go through the hassle of plugging up another console if I even still have it. then for me its also I tend to flip flop on which brand I buy each gen, so I miss exclusives. i've never had the money to justify buying all consoles of a gen. last time I had that luxury my mom bought the gamecube and ps2 and I bought the xbox with my allowance.

I can totally understand circumstances like not having the proper console at the time, but why on earth would you spend more money on what ultimately amounts to minor improvements on a game you've already experienced or had the chance to experience? I feel like this is why game devs are so lazy lately- people just giving their money to support more trash on the market.

I will ony buy them if they have actual extra content such as new dungeons.

It really depends on what's new about it. Some people love better graphics. Some stuff has added content. Things that have multiplayer also attract people. It just depends. And just because you don't see it as a reason to buy it, doesn't mean others won't. It's really simple. They want to play it again with better graphics, extra content, etc... And this is a game that has replayability. So, there's that, too...

only ones i've bought I can think of is, final fantasy 12, which had a revamped system in some areas. and mgs V which I mostly got just to have GZ and TPP on the same disc. plus the graphics are slightly better, but i'm disliking this thing my brother called focus blur I think. where when I zoom in and try to look at something more closely like someones face it slightly blurs. the last gen versions didn't have that problem.

mgs is one of my favorite game series. wouldn't do it for say borderlands despite how much I loved those games. its the only case where i've re bought a game that I still had readily available on another console. I still have final fantasy 12 on ps2, but I have no ps2. I have no clue what happened to my ps2 copy of final fantasy 10 though. so I re bought that simply to have it in my collection again.

the better graphics also sweetened the deal, and I figured it would run better on a ps4 versus 360.

Because the stupidity of how gamers spend their money governs what sort of releases we get on the market.

No game is so fun that it is immune to getting bored of, not to mention people could have played it for years with slightly less graphics.

Do you really think that companies produce remasters instead of original stuff? More often than not, remasters are a way to generate some easy extra revenue between major releases, not produced instead of making new stuff. Development resources are finite, yes, but it takes vastly fewer resources to remaster a game than to produce a new one.

Sure. People can get bored of a game. But how fast they get bored is different for every person. They could be bored before they finish the first playthrough. Or after 100. I know I sometimes play old games randomly for fun. Also, what if they don't have the old console they had it on? Or access to it? Like how some people have family consoles. And then moved away from home. But left the console with their family. Or someone who donated a console to someone else. And they want to play the game again. And what if some people just really love the better graphics...

Suppose I enjoyed the game the first time, but there were notable performance issues in some places. Along comes a version that fixes those issues and makes the game run better. If I want to play the game again and experience a better version, I'll do that. I do the same thing with movies.

The gaming industry *is* in bad shape, mostly because of neckbeards with your mentality, who think that playing the same game over and over to death is somehow fun. My views aren't "elitist," somehow, just because they go against the neckbeard grain. As for "tastes," my cat enjoys running in circles after a toy mouse attached to a stick- he has fun with it, but that's not something that I'd consider to be fun. It's a similar thing with neckbeards and replaying the same games over and over again.

So, just because someone doesn't mind playing a game more than once, you just call them names. Anyway, you basically answered your own question. You and your cat have different taste in what's fun, just like how everyone else in the world has different taste in what's fun to them... I hate to say this because I don't want to sound mean. But it honestly sounds like you made this topic to try to prove that you think you have better taste or something. But we all like different things. And most people have given you reasons. Just because you don't like those reasons or they don't apply doesn't mean your question hasn't been answered. It's been answered multiple times already...

He's really not- he hasn't made any sort of good points. Neckbeard cheerleaders are the funniest things I've seen as of late, FWL tacticians trying to make noise out of nothing.

RogueliTes offer the type of replayability that rewards multiple playthroughs, and the best ones usually offer lots of content and new bosses/enemies on subsequent playthroughs. This is very different from just replaying the same game with the same bosses and the same equipment.

RogueliTes offer the type of replayability that rewards multiple playthroughs, and the best ones usually offer lots of content and new bosses/enemies on subsequent playthroughs. This is very different from just replaying the same game with the same bosses and the same equipment.

Dark Souls does this yet you target Dark Souls.

No it doesn't. There's not really anything significant you unlock a second playthrough of any of the souls games. The playstyles can be slightly different (e.g. pyro instead of dex build), but ultimately they're the same crap where you study boss patterns and use slightly different methods of DPS to win the battle.

He's really not- he hasn't made any sort of good points. Neckbeard cheerleaders are the funniest things I've seen as of late, FWL tacticians trying to make noise out of nothing.

What? Are you suggesting that replaying the same game over and over again can actually be made more entertaining than it sounds by subtle variations in subsequent playthroughs that offer new ways to play and keep things interesting? Whoa dude. You're totally blowing my mind here.

Incidentally, I've got nothing against Roguelikes/lites. I'm not very good at a lot of them, but Risk of Rain in particular was an absolutely fantastic time. I just like pointing out hypocrisy when it's this funny.

This is not different from roguelites.

You'd think adjl would be experienced enough to not fall for Janway at this point.
