in Discord, RayDyn mentioned how he'd never seen the game until this morning and thought it was just the same old Donkey Kong, so I want to know how common this is.

I discovered the game through QVC of all places. They were featuring Game Boys and that was the game they showed in the promotion. The very next weekend my brother and I convinced our parents to get it for us.

Still is a top 3 GB game for me.

It does at least contain the original Donkey Kong levels. But it's so much more afterward.

It's a pretty solid action puzzle platformer long before those made a resurgence with Braid and such. Also has a direct sequel on GBA in the form of Mario vs. Donkey Kong, before that spun off into Lemmings clones.

I actually don't love it personally that much but it is a cool game

Also if you already know about how to do them before the game tells you, you can do backflips and handstands to finish those levels in about three seconds each

Yes. I left off at the 3rd World. At some point I need to finish it but from what I played it's really good.

It was even Game of the Month at one point in EGM Magazine.

I really enjoyed it when it first came out. I talked it up to the other kids in school, then a bunch of them played it too. I always assumed it was real popular because of this, and it surprises me when people don't know about it.

I was once stuck on one of the ship levels for almost 15 years until I beat it my sophomore year of college.

I was familiar with it from contemporary coverage in Nintendo Power, but I never played it until I emulated it like 8 or 9 years later. I later bought it both in cartridge form and on 3DS VC, and Mario vs DK is one of my top GBA games. I actually destroyed my original GBA because of that game, because soft-resetting doesn't restore your lives so I kept doing rapid off/ons until it got fried and every game became a glitched up mess.

I never did beat the game, I got stuck on the...airship, maybe? Really late in the game. Great game.

Donkey Kong GBC is a gift of a video game. If people haven't played it, they certainly should--and it's on the 3DS eShop for easy access!

What a twist after those first few levels.

I remember when I got this game, it was the summer of 1994 and it was my seventh birthday, my dad took me out to Walmart to get Donkey Kong '94 and the Super Game Boy and when we got back home all my friends were there and the house was all decked out in Power Rangers stuff, it was probably the biggest surprise party I've ever had in my life, it was awesome.
