On top of this, electric kettles break/fail waaay more than stove top kettles. Maybe the handle on a stove top kettle will break after so much use, but I've had two electric kettles stop working. Had the same stove top kettle now for 15 years, and it was my grandmother's before that. Thing will last forever.

Why are some of the others so expensive, though. I think that's the cheapest one. Though, I do understand that I would wanna avoid spending $12 every so often because of a broken electric kettle if I could have one that doesn't break as often or ever...

I have a tea pot that I use on the stove top. I also have a gas stove, so if I lost power I could still heat up water to make cup of soup or tea. I can also take it out camping with me to boil water for tea or instant coffee over the fire.

So it makes more sense to just use the tea pot.

you're just putting water in it.

to get hot.

which i can do with a saucepan and a stove.

That's just flagrantly untrue. You need to balance how much space you have available with how much you want that dedicated device, obviously, but otherwise there's no reason not to have a waffle iron if you want waffles, or a coffee maker if you want coffee. Some things do actually need a dedicated device (or at least are so much easier with a dedicated device that it's sensible to have one).

That, and if you're suggesting that boiling water is "only one thing," I'm thinking you need to cook more.

You can use both your examples for other things than just those.

Yeah. I guess that's the best thing to use... It's very versatile. You can use the pre-packages K-cups, a reusable K-cup(like for you own coffee mixes), or just send through hot water if you want to mix something in it...

Keurigs break easily and are a pain in the ass to clean. They also make really weak coffee if you use coffee grounds with their filter.

Idk. I've had mine for years. And it's cleans fine... for me, at least. And if you use the reusable K-cups, you can alter the strength. But Idk really know much about the strength. I always have flavored coffee. And use lots of creamer and sugar so that it doesn't taste like coffee anymore...

I meant weak as in lower caffeine. It seems like it could never brew correctly like a drip machine does.

I actually use an electric kettle to boil ALL water I need to use. So, if I'm making soup, or rice, or veggies, I'll actually boil the water in the kettle first, when that is almost done, I'll put the pot on my stove and turn the stove top on, then pour the water into the pot.

It the fastest way to bring water to a boil. For me, at least.

I bought an electric kettle once and it broke after only a few uses; so I went back to the stove top variety. A good stove top is much cheaper than a good electric kettle, or at least it is here (I'm in Florida). Besides, when I was younger, my parents always had a stove top kettle for coffee and tea; so it's more of a habit than anything.

You can't put a cleaning fluid in the part where you put the cups/filter in. You would need to unscrew it to properly clean that part out.

Maybe. But how much water can it hold. I usually fill a pot. And then use actually fire(gas stove) to boil it. I would want to fill an electric kettle a couple times just because. I'd rather fill a few pots and use Fire...

If I am boiling water, it is usually 5 gallons or more, because I am making beer. Then again I have a propane burner that can boil 5 - 10 gallons of water in about 15 minutes.
