Managed to stay in Tier 20. Was something like Rank 5000/5500 with 5060 points. Had the exact same score last week and my ranking dropped a little this week, so the standards just seem to be getting higher.

The pairing algorithm is also changing for the upcoming arena week. If it makes it easier to find battles on the upper end of your score range, the cutoff point will go up even more.

I'd love to pull for the new Ephraim but unless he has a godly statline, I dunno how I'd use him. He should be good at running into enemies and killing, but I feel like that tactic won't work great against enemies in modes for content that matters like Arena and Chain Challenge. And if he's just ultimately baiting/tanking, my Sigurd already does that and better, thanks to his abilities that let him survive potential OHKOs, while this dude doesn't even have DC to be able to defensively respond and proc Sol/Solar Brace.

I'd pull Red for fodder/merges, but Tomato Leo is there. Blue's tempting, but I'll probably stick green to get IP3 and Steady Breath fodder, and worst case scenario Gunnthra merges.

Random Lon'qu and general arena chatter

1. The Love Abounds banner had ranged spoiling in the Gift tomes. You can't really claim they've stopped just because the last new hero banner didn't (and even that featured 2 Distant Counter weapons!). Also, the big reward for the ongoing TT was a buff to armour, implying IS still thinks they're a bit underpowered (I would agree; you obviously do not).

2. Raven mages with high atk still hold up great, especially if they can receive Hone/Goad Emblem buffs. You OHKO two out of four colours unless someone runs Cancel Affinity. A good blade mage doesn't care about dragonbreath because they OHKO dragons at WTA or neutral (WTD is possible with certain builds). Building for OHKOs is kinda what magic does really well (or 2HKO in Reinhardt/Olwen's case, same thing). Brave Bow also but not as well for several reasons.

6. There are still very, very few non-greens can counter a player-controlled Reinhardt (and even greens have trouble). It takes like 50 HP/40 Res to avoid a OHKO from a buffed QP Reinhardt even before Goads are considered. If you meant counters for AI-controlled Reinhardt, well, almost anything the AI does is easily countered.

7. Couldn't disagree more, Breakers are some of the most valuable B skills because they let you completely destroy a certain matchup regardless of speed. They cut through Wary Fighter, they completely nullify speed-and-special-based characters like Bow Lyn and Ayra. Swordbreaker is a particularly good one because (a) swords are the most common weapon, and (b) their users are often fast. The only widely available B skill I would consider better than a Breaker is Quick Riposte, and only because that allows follow-ups against a wider range of targets (though only for characters who expect to do enemy phase combat).

8. Mia is infantry, therefore is not as good as those dudes (except Soleil, sure). Again, most of them match her speed with an appropriate Goad, or come close, while crushing her in other stats and/or mobility. And since you played the personal experience card, I'll throw it right back: I don't think I've seen a Mia in arena this calendar year. (Or a Lon'qu, for that matter.)

Also I never said Lon'qu is unusuable or anything close. There's a very large gap between "one of the best choices possible" and "unusuable", and Lon'qu falls well inside it. Speed's still a good stat, after all.

Just did the calculations. My +1 Vanguard Ike, assuming that he's given someone a blessing and is 'in season', is equal in arena scoring to my +7 Lon'qu. The arena score powercreep is way worse than the actual gameplay powercreep.

Not really an unpopular opinion.

The other stuff I just...disagree on. I don't value the Breaker skills highly when the B slot is so stacked with good shit - Desperation, Quick Riposte, Wrath, and sometimes Vantage are all much better and less situational. I see Mia fairly often - not as much as Ayra but not uncommon. I also think we're having two different conversations on character usability, where you're imagining a scenario where a character is fully buffed and has a team built around them to make them as strong as possible and I'm...not. No character is going to always be in the optimal situation - they need a degree of independence. You're also waaaay overselling Reinhardt's (and mages in general) damage - I just did the calculations, and a +10 +Atk +Hone Cavalry Reinhardt (no Moonbow though, the calculator didn't count it for some reason) doesn't kill an out-of-the-box unbuffed Sheena, and she's not the strongest that Green has to offer these days.

It's to be taken with a big grain of salt, but both the GamePress and Gamepedia tier lists have Reinhardt a tier below the top tier. The only top tier mage in either of them is Winter Tharja, who is also an armor. Mia is also placed a tier above some of the dudes you mentioned in the last topic, is equal to most, and is only topped by Elincia/Zelgius/Ayra.

Breakdown of each one's top tier:
GamePress: 3 armor, 2 infantry, 1 flier, 1 cavalry
GamePedia: 9 armor, 1 cavalry, 1 infantry, 1 flier

It's a 4* and not a 5*.

You never said I had to tell the truth.

The big things that Ike has over Lon'qu are:
1. Higher base BST
2. Much higher skill costs (Ragnell and Radiant Aether mostly)
3. Blessing

It adds up. Like, Radiant Aether costs 300 more SP than Luna does. I could replace Luna with Ather, but I don't want Aether on Lon'qu. Luna works better. It's just a tad silly.

Well that's terrifying.

One of the main reasons I don't like the whole blessing system in general. They increase your score, but the hero has to fit into your team. Then there's the difficulty of merging them so they don't fall behind(Who uses +0 Fjorm in the arena?).

If Fjorm is a bonus unit, I would use her at +0 because that's all I have.

Wonder what Brave Ephraim will look like now that his Legendary form is out. I will be skipping this banner, probably worst one so far. Now to see what comes next before I decide if I want to go for Grima

Whatever they did to make fighting stronger teams in arena 'easier', it had the exact opposite effect for me. Most of the teams I could have fought were the minimum possible scoring. That took a looooot of crests.

got a -spd Summer Corrin when no greens showed up. somehow i just can't escape dupes on the legendary banners (granted, Ike would have been a dupe, too, but one i actually wanted).

170+ orbs. I full pull on the first two, and colorless is what pays off.

Jaffar = +Hp/-Def

Jaffar = +Res/-Hp

These will be merged to my +Spd/-Atk Jaffar. I wish that boon was anything else, -Atk leaves him at 23 attack. That's near Odin tier(His neutral is 22). But Jaffar's defensive stats are all pretty meh.

Green orbs literally don't appear until my 9th pull. I also saw 5 colorless orbs and 5 red orbs. I get dud after dude until I finally start to see green.

..And it's a 4* Fredrick and 3*Beruka. 4* Gunter shows up in another green.

But all of that was worth it, because the last two greens I pulled?

Gunnthra +Atk/-Def
BraveIke +Atk/-Res

I'm down to 21, so I'm done with pulling for a good long while. As much as I have units that want Steady Breath... I can't sacc an Ike this good. Guntthra is also nice, though she also doesn't really fit into my team(Nino covers my green mage needs). Though... at least she'd be a viable option when she's a bonus unit(And perhaps I could give BK the blessing since he could use the res and hp).

Not having much interest in the Legendary Heroes banner I decided to go harder on the Fallen Heroes banner.

Got Celica after getting up to 4% again! +SPD/-ATK. Honestly I don't think that's a terrible nature for her despite the conventional thinking. She's actually strangely tanky if you don't compromise her defensive stats. I feel like +SPD is a big deal considering her sword gives her +4 if she's at 100% she can have 42 base SPD which is kinda dumb. So really +SPD/-Anything is pretty good, though all things considered I'd probably have wanted -RES.

Also got a 5* Ogma in the set. It's a Brave Sword+, I guess. Though I'm honestly not sure I'd want to give anyone a Brave Sword-- brave weapons in general seem kinda meh since the Weapon Refinery came out. I guess I could give Chrom one to use in non-dragon maps but it's kinda weapon micro managing I wouldn't care for. Are there any sword users that actually want a Brave Sword+ anymore?

Hana is maybe the best Brave Sword user, I think. For units that don't have better options at least.

Also I'd love to get a S!Corrin. Granted probably not one with negative attack or speed natures.

I got a free brave sword (-Atk Cain) the first time they implemented a free summon on each banner. I guess it's nice, but it is still taking up barracks space for me.

My +Spd -Atk Innes is still great. I don't miss the extra attack very much when you're doubling everything. Celica will probably be very effective as well.

I think legendary hero banners will probably be the only way to get hero units unfortunately so it'll be unavoidable if you want to reliably use the blessing mechanic.

Part of me almost wants to pull on this one for that reason as I'm not sure how many hero units I'm going to actually like-- and Ephraim on a damn horse is still Ephraim-- but I'm also starting to run out of orbs on the board and I kinda dislike the other blues in this set (green looks solid across the board though)

Ephraim will be back on banner eventually, and he's bound to coincide with a blue you want one of these times. Green is the most attractive color if you just want a legendary hero. Brave Ike is as good as it gets, and Dorcas with IP is pretty nice too. I'm not really sure if I want Gunnthra though

Dorcas is great. Definitely get more use out of him than Gunnthra, who never seems to fit in even on my cavalry teams.

I don't have either, but yeah, Dorcas sounds more useful on paper. The only reason I'd even want Gunnthra is for that new mode, and the ability to use wind blessings. We'll get multiple legendaries of each color so I guess I can wait on that

I don't think I've ever used Dorcas in any of my FE7 playthroughs, mainly because other than Hector, I'd use Bartre or Dart as my Axe user.

But you know, Dorcas is a man who fights for his wife. That's gotta count for something!

I doubt it will be Ephraim's final version. We've gotten seasonal Hector. The door is now open for a seasonal Ephraim.
