1-5's last trial day is an abomination. Evidence law, Gant whining about not testifying, Lana being braindead, it's all bad. Not to mention "frame a child for accidentally killing someone -> BLACKMAIL SO STRONG YOU WILL DIE FOR ME" is some of the worst plotting Ace Attorney has ever done.

I kinda want to hype the second trial day as the only good one because Jake Marshall just makes me crack a big smile in general, but on the other hand it has Mike Meekins. You can't win with 1-5.

while I appreciate the Ace Attorney Trilogy port for cleaning up some of the dialogue, I wish they had left some of it alone

at the beginning of 1-5 trial day 2 Phoenix tells Lana that they found traces of Jake Marshall in the evidence room

Lana's response in the original was, "You found Officer Marshall's...traces?" which is kind of hilarious with the way it's phrased

and now she says "What kind of...trace evidence?" which is boring

Well, in some cases, it's probably better off. There's one line in 1-5 in the original that Ema Skye says literally the exact opposite of what she says in the updated translation, so I'm assuming they just botched that line the first time.

Okay, there's a discussion about blood tests, and Phoenix says something incredibly stupid that I can't tell if he's just dumb or he's telling a bad joke. He says that there are four basic blood types, but you can't use a blood test to determine that a murder was committed in cold blood or something absurd (Seriously, 1-5's writing is so suspect sometimes).

In the original, Ema says that there are actually millions of possible combinations and so it's impossible to tell who a blood sample belongs to with a blood test. In the updated translation, she says that blood tests actually are able to narrow it down to the point where you can essentially say who it belongs to. I don't have the exact lines in front of me, but that's the gist.

While my overall estimation of the case has dropped over the years, the one aspect of it that's improved for me is Jake Marshall. I didn't like the guy at all the first time I played 1-5, but now I think he's great.

Real conversation I've just had with a guy.

Him: random joke about evidence.
Me: random joke about maya.
Him: I actually dislike every Fey except Maya, tbh.
Me: Seriously? Mia is awesome. The cases where you play as her are... damn.
Him: <long paragraph about how Mia ruined the ending of 1-2>. Also I've only played AA1 and AA2, so I didn't know you could play as Mia.

What is wrong with people these days?

I just told him to stop what he is doing and go play AA3.

(though to be fair he is 30yo and with a child so yeah that's not that easy. But it still makes me angry lol).

And even more okay with it when it produced the second best one (6-5).

Old Mia is annoying sometimes but he is very likable most of the time.

Like Phoenix's siatuations are so hopeless that having her around to help brainstorm what to do feels fair.

Though yeah she overdid it a few times.

I actually liked the end of 1-2 though because at the time I didn't know what to expect and the plot was great. It was pretty chathartic to see the bad guy lose.

I mean, Redd White probably doesn't compare to everyone who came after him, but in an universe where only he and Sawhit exist, he is solid.

I'll give 1-5 a lot of credit for this: It might be the most intelligent Judge in the series (along with 3-5 somehow). Sure, he still says typically dumb Judge things, but he follows along with the details of the case really well, and he asks probing questions of witnesses instead of just asking someone to explain things to him.

I've always thought the contradiction in Ema's picture about the knife having a "broken tip" was weird because it's just a picture she drew

maybe she just didn't put a point on the knife when she drew it by mistake or something or she's a terrible artist (like me)

here's another instance of the updated translation doing good cleanup work

Ema says she didn't know who had come to her rescue against Joe Darke because it was too dark to see. Later on, there's a line in the original where she talks about pushing the one with the knife, and she says, "All I could think was, 'I've gotta help Mr. Marshall!'" which she obviously couldn't have thought because she didn't know who it was.

now it says "All I could think was, 'I've gotta help that other person!'" so good work on catching that little detail
