Straight from one of the co-founders of TeamFourStar. The multi-part finale of the Cell Saga could potentially be where DBZ Abridged ends. "Sorry to say, but circumstances change." he added in a later tweet responding to a fan asking about the Buu Saga, but he didn't (or possibly couldn't) elaborate further. DBZ Abridged deserves some credit for helping the Dragon Ball franchise stay relevant with fans during the gap before DB Super was released. If this is really the end of the series, it had one hell of a run.

They really do.

In the west at least.

If anyone can play Xenoverse or Fighter Z and not see the DBZA influence they are lying.

They even did some voicework for DBZ Kai and Super.

They were basically a walking popular advert for Dragonball and Crunchyroll.

Sad to see it end but it was only a matter of time. The gaps between episodes were so long and they cosntantly fighting to stop them being taken down

They even got to voice the "play" of Hercule beating Cell, in the buu arc for kai. Until Toei made funimation pull it :(

Several of them even voice characters in the various DB games, and they are all on very good terms with the funimation team in general and some of the VA themselves. They have had an undeniable influence on keeping DB popular in the west, but Toei is Toei and refuses to cash in on this and scream like a child against them so really just surprised they lasted this long.

They have also moved into official dubbing as well now, and the reality is if they want to be a proper and official "thing" (whatever that thing may be) they can't be constantly facing off against Toei. It sucks, but.. at least we got all this free entertainment so far?

Why does the fact they enjoyed making it, change the fact that they put out content for people for years without asking for anything?

PUHLEASE. Dragon Ball is arguably the most popular manga/anime of all time both in Japan and around the world, and is considered the pioneers of the genre. Shows like Naruto and One Piece would not be anything without Dragon Ball. During the end of DBZ the show was still heavily relevant to the world. They absolutely did NOT need a parody show to make it stay popular. FUcking hilarious.

The problem with DBZA is that they drastically increased the production values over time meanwhile running out of material.

It's easy to make your first few episodes. Just make it quick and dirty with lots of cheap jokes.

But by the end, they had quality video editting and voiceovers, and they tried to go way too into detail with everything.

Given they are friends with Funimation, some of the VA's who do the writing for the dub etc...

..is it shocking to think they had some influence on it? While maybe not direct influences, I think it could be fair to say the dub/games having more fun with it is an influence on seeing how popular the comedy of dbza was.

Which is different from what I'm saying here. DBZ sold itself and even without DBS or DBZA it would still be hugely popular today.

Well it's true for me.

But for the record I wasn't saying that. I said it helped it stay popular in the West.

DBZ did nothing for years. It would have been dead completely if the terrible Evolution movie didn't motivate them to make more.

But DBZ kept hype alive on the internet. People who otherwise would have never bought Xenoverse, Fighter Z or Cruncy Roll or seen Super. Now did.7

I do think it's safe to say viewership of Battle of the Gods, Super, Kai, Crunchy Roll and sales of Xenoverse 1 and 2 as well as Fighter Z would have less without DBZA.

They were literally a commercial that was watched by millions

If we're talking influence, it's all about perspective.

Do I have an effect on a video game because I write a FAQ for it? In some small way, maybe, but I'm not going around trumpeting it.

TFS, to their credit, maintains a similar stance of humility. I've never seen them claim to maintain the public eye on Dragon Ball through their work. Did they have an effect? Sure, but can we legitimately track its significance? Not with any confidence.

LOL @ people who act as if TFS had a significant impact on DBZ's popularity.

Fuck out with that shit. Casual audiences don't even know TFS fucking exists. Its main audience just consists of hardcore DBZ fans.

The only FUNimation decided to hire them for some minor shit was to appeal to these hardcore fans. Without TFS, DBZ would still be hugely popular.

Anyone arguing DBZA kept the interest for the series on the west might as well limit it to just the US. Latin America recieves a yearly flux of DB merchandise, ever since it started airing, and would often get a 2 hour block from 5pm to 7pm in Mexico.

Not saying DBZA is bad, but the original series more than stands on it's own merits.

Why are people acting like helping something stay popular means it's the only reason it stayed popular?

You guys must have been a Nightmare when Waynes World came out.

"Man this movie helped keep Bohemian Rhapsody alive."

"OMG YOUr CLAIMNG THAT WITPHIT TAT CRAPPY POOP MOVIe Queen would be FORGOTTEN worldwide and no one would like them!"

"...No it just helped keep it relevant. It went back to #1 in the charts and was either introduced or reintroduced to a lot of people."

"I guess Waynes World is responsible for all the success of all British bands and tours EVER!"

"No one said that..."

I don't get how you can claim that a giant popular commercial that lasted for YEARS and became so popular that the guys in it did official dub work and influenced the video games has not had a impact or keeping it popular.

Hell you can see just by looking at things like Data of google searches and increase in what is watched on CruncyRoll when new episodes of DBZA came out.
