I absolutely would support the death penalty for him. Put him in the express lane.

And not by giving them three square meals a day, a sturdy roof over their heads and in most cases a longer life than most homeless people struggling on the streets.

If prison is such a great deal, why don't the homeless just get arrested? Why do they go out of their way to avoid being arrested when all they have to do is steal something they need anyway?

People like to be free to choose otherwise. My cat likes to laze around my house all day, but when locked outside, at first he'll complain but he's perfectly happy to switch to hunting birds and mice soon after.

Homeless people are homeless because they have issues, these issues could be inability to socialise or fear of it, or they could be extremely prideful and refuse to harm others just to prop themselves up. Or they've got it in their heads that every prison is for violent offenders so their ass hole is always under threat there.

A killer gets to live longer than their victims

Have they ever not lived longer?

Yes, in many murder/suicides.

I don't support the death penalty as a punishment as it has the opposite effect as a deterrent and the appeals process makes it cost too much money.

I do support a volunteer death penalty, like if a prisoner gets multiple life sentences they can just go "Ok, I'm done..."

I'm of this view. If someone murdered my loved one, I wouldn't want them dead. I'd want them in jail. Could be devoting the time to understanding these murderers through study/rehab (I don't vote they leave the prison system for crimes like these ones, but maybe they can teach other inmates some day), and acting on preventative measures. Too many petty drug crimes weighing down the American prison system.

I mean I totally GET the eye for an eye mentality. I empathize with it, and it makes perfect sense. I just don't feel that way though. Make him fucking regret that horrible shit he did. Then they can voluntarily have himself offed or he can tell less fucked up offenders to steer clear of the path of terrorizing others.

It's not really an eye for a eye approach in my opinion.

Any time you talk about "deserving" a consequence, that's a matter of vengeance. If you want to justify a consequence, ground it in practicality, not vindictiveness.

It's not out of vengeance though. I am talking about serial killers, mass shooters, child rapists, etc the worst of the worst kind of people. If you want to go on a killing spree like that, then the consequence is your death. We no longer need you in this society or want to try to change you. Those acts are irredeemable. You get some times to make peace with what you did and come to terms with your eventual demise. I feel giving them time to do just that is a mercy. Most executions are done pretty humanly nowadays. So it's not like we are sending them to the gallows, firing squad, Guillotine, blood eagle, etc. If I wanted eye for a eye there is much worse things you can do.

Agreed, but if he murders 10 other families, I don't want him around period. He gets his death row time and you can study them then. I feel the problem with deathrow is that it is too short of a time. If it was 10 year mandatory wait, that's mroe then enough time to find evidence to prove the person's innocents. Gives you time to study their behavior and find out what went wrong, etc. Just because someone supports the death penalty, doesn't mean they think the person should die right then and there or support the death penalty for small crimes. It is there for the most vial of all crimes. Should be hard to get death row.

That's kind of a vengeance attitude, though. Otherwise, a lot of the culprits for the crimes you describe suffer from some kind of mental illness -- which may be treatable in some cases, such as Kip Kinkel's schizophrenia -- so it raises some pretty serious moral questions. Granted, America wouldn't be the first nation to execute the mentally ill because they find them inconvenient, but usually that's reserved more for developing and undeveloped nations who don't tend to have the same moral fiber as a developed nation.

In the case of child rapists, chemical castration -- as a voluntary measure -- is a *very* easy way to redeem them. Granted, it's an unpleasant workaround until better treatment methods become available.

On what grounds? You still haven't provided a practical basis for wanting that consequence, which means it's purely an emotional reaction. That means it is simply out of vengeance, which is a dumb reason to do anything.
